This has probably been asked before, but I'm curious if y'all think that a suicide note should always be handwritten, or if it could be printed out instead?

My handwriting is kinda shitty even when I'm making an effort, so it might end up being unintelligible or harder to read than I would desire.

Obviously, a handwritten note probably will come across as a much more personal and sincere thing for the recipient. But if they have a hard time reading it due to the handwriting, I'm not sure if it's worth it…

it should be however your romanticism intends, it's your suicide.

Of course, but what do you think is preferable or most considerable for the recipient?

in my mind the message matters most, in yours you may decide hand written has that personal touch, i dunno im not you.

I also have a shitty handwriting, so I'll just print it. Perhaps will also leave a signature so if somehow police wants to do some investigation, they can conclude the note is genuine from me and wasting less of their time.

That's fair. I'm mostly asking because I'm not really able to feel empathy or compassion anymore because of my condition. So, I'm not certain how any recipient would potentially react anymore.

Yeah, I'll definitely include a signature if I decide to go for a print-out.

i'm personally going to type mine and have them sent as emails. when someone close to me ctb, the police didn't let us have the note for months, it sucked hardcore. so i'm just gonna send em directly

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that. Is it really a common practice for the police to not release it for such a long time?

i believe so :(( i think it was part of the ""investigation" but it was very obvious how he passed, so i'm not sure why they held it for so long ://

Unless I suddenly developed caligraphy skills, I wouldn't. My handwriting is too illegible to understand, so writing it by hand would only confuse people. But then, no one alive around me now cared enough to stop me from getting to the point of wanting to die, why should I leave them a note to clear their collective consciences anyway?

I really think it's unimportant whether it's hand written or not. It's the content of the message that's important

Unbelievable. I could understand it if they thought his death was suspicious, which they didn't, they should at least have offered to give you a transcript of it at some point… :/

And, yeah, the consensus so far seems to be that it's the message that matters the most, and not the way of delivery.

Me personally I'll do it by handwriting. It feels more sincere and personal, even if my writing it's kinda ugly but who cares. Also I'll leave it at home in my drawer so police won't take it away. The only thing they will find will be my phone and my id so they know where to go after I'm found.

It's entirely up the person. I plan on a handwritten note mostly for the investigation, as I plan to partially hang myself and don't want to leave any room for doubt that it was in fact, a suicide. Plus, It also seems more appropriate and personal to me, but that's just how I feel. I will first type it out on a computer and then copy it to paper so there aren't any errors or I have to mark anything out. I don't think either one is wrong though.

This is definitely something I had not considered. I suppose I will make two copies then. One the police won't find, but my father will. Not sure the method of the delivery on that one though.

Probably it's because the letter might contain some hints on the reason why the person decided to suicide, or how he did it, or lead other people to take revenge against someone. All those things will be hints for the investigation of the police, or certain information might need to be censored.

Content matters more, IMO.

Mine's a 5 sentence and not drawn out, people won't be surprised when I do CTB either way so no point in typing (mine will be a text) a long one, it might just make my family suffer more if anything.

Straight to the point, not much feelings and emotions is what I say. But that's just me since everyone is well aware of my issues.

I honestly think it could be either. Like most people have said, content of the letter is what matters more. Handwritten if you want to add a personal touch, printed if you're afraid your handwriting is too illegible that the content might lose meaning.

Also why I'm texting. What if the letter gets lost somehow or someone gets rid of it? Text everyone gets the "short" message at the same time and the intent will probably not be lost.

I'm struggling with it atm. I've had already wrote some notes, with both methods (handwritten and on the computer), but that's only samples, bot final versions.

Idk, I'm little afraid that I will print it by accident and forgot about, and my parents would find it, as I have problems with my memory sometimes. But I can edit it easly at any time, and it just look neat when compared to my handwriting.

And when it comes to handwritten note: my writing is... well... not so good :D So in that case I'm afraid that they would not be able to read it. And also my writing takes a lot of space, so it would be hard to squeeze it all on one page.

I definitely agree with the consensus that content matters most. But I plan to handwrite the ones I'll send to those closest to me, and will leave a typed one with my backpack where I'll jump from.

I think it should be, however you feel you can communicate best what your wanting to convey. I am going to do a few videos tonight before I ctb tonight. I just think you should give yourself the opportunity to think in which way you can best connect with the people you are leaving behind.

I agree. I'm printing out multiple copies. I've listed out everyone who matters with their own personal message then ill sign the bottom. Shows your own free will and you were in control. Its also the closure on you and your life. It seems common courtesy if nothing else.

I plan to type mine. There's so much I need to say and so much pain I have from certain things. It's either gonna be typed or nothing. I haven't decided yet tbh since I made a promise to my cat that I would stick around as long as she's alive. She'll turn 16 this year so not sure how much longer she has.

Im going to write my last will, rather than a suicide note: meaning that i won't specify the reason or anything like that, but rather imply how i would like things to be after my passing; i don't want a funeral, for example
I don't think it's always necessary to specify the reason: in my case, there are plenty of things that i left that will surely explain -why-, but honestly i don't feel like writing it down to whoever is going to find my corpse; i don't consider it that important

I have typed mine but each person has their own. I plan to have them printed out but I know they will be taken as evidence so I will hide a USB stick with them on and send a delayed email to my therapist.

I''ve written mine by hand because i want that last part of me to feel like me, not just ink on a page from an already-programmed font. it's up to you though wishing you peace and comfort

I think I'll end up doing both, so that I'm absolutely sure that my message is not lost while keeping it personal at the same time.

Though, now I'm mostly worried about the police not releasing the notes within a reasonable time. And I don't want to send any notes digitally or via post in case of failure when I attempt to CTB.
