I like this method the most. But the only thing I am worried about is I'll make a nice hole in a lung as it goes to the heart. So my question is: would the blood loss be so quick and huge that the asphixia wouldn't be much before I pass out? Or will I literally drown in torture with an open lung? Thanks guys!

Why your chest though? Aiming for your brain stem through your mouth is simply more effective.

There's a small risk and I don't fancy surviving that mate.
Blood loss is guaranteed to die by chest shot and some alone time even if painful

If you do actually hit the heart, with that kind of shock to your system I suspect you'll be unconscious so fast you won't have time to worry about the discomfort of either asphyxia or exsanguination.

I'd still echo @Umbra, though, and say a well-placed shot to the head is more likely to be faster and more effective. If you're learning to aim for your heart, why not instead learn to aim for your brainstem? The most common failure with a shotgun is aiming too high --specifically, putting it under your chin. Aim straight for the back of your mouth --with a shotgun don't worry too much about 10° or 15° or whatever up angles (much more of an issue with a pistol)-- and you'll get close enough to the brainstem/spinal cord for hydrostatic shock to finish anything the projectile itself leaves incomplete.

Thanks a lot for the feedback mate but what about recoil flinching? I can aim as well as I want but if I happen to flinch then I might go too high and bye bye face... If I do shoot the chest and flinch it doesn't matter as much because I'd eventually bleed out in a few mins.

There is only one place in the body that is guaranteed to cause immediate death if it's destroyed by a bullet. That is the brain stem.

IDC about instantly dying though. A few mins is ok.

With the barrel in your mouth you wouldn't flinch so much that you would significantly alter the bullet's trajectory as this is seemingly physically extremely unlikely. With a wound to the chest yes you would go into shock and pass out quickly but your brain would be fully on-line and you would be fully conscious while absorbing the blow.

Whereas with the brainstem destroyed you are in effect destroying the capacity for sensation and consciousness to a large extent, I do think with the brain stem shot that it is still very painful, however. In all the gun to the head suicide videos I've watched with audio, the person lets you a huge grunt of pain immediately after shooting themselves in the head, regardless of whether the shot was fired in the mouth or from the side of the head. Guaranteed they felt that. Although the videos in question were using pistols, not shotguns.

Either way, it is safe to assume that shooting yourself with a shotgun is extremely traumatic and painful, regardless of location. But effective nonetheless.

Thanks my friend. Yes it will be painful. But I'll take that pain over 60 years of misery in a heartbeat (pun intended) :)

Gunshot is with a pistol
Shotgun with shotgun lol

You shouldn't be able to process any information when you shoot your brain stem. There is nothing connecting pain or function of the body.

I second TiredHorse here. It is generally more failproof and effective to go for the brainstem instead of the chest. While the chest can still result in a successful suicide, there is more room for error. Also, there is a chance of being conscious (if the angle is incorrect or you hit another part of the body that doesn't result in immediate unconsciousness) before dying to injuries and blood loss. The article regarding the Turkish man who shot himself in the chest with a shotgun is an example of that.

I'm pretty sure if you aim a shot gun at your forehead you will die too. I read in a book once (it was non-fiction) about this person who witnessed a suicide by shotgun. Said that everywhere there were pieces of skull, brains etc.

He aimed at his stomach and his family was in the house so he survived longer than he had to. The definition of impulse act.
I'm not counting on not feeling pain, losing consciousness suddenly. I'm not a fool to think that. But the appeal of this to me is that there's 0 chance of surviving as long as no people are there to save you.
I think the blood loss should kill one pretty quickly max 10min. hopefully.

Yeah same. I don't really give a damn about hurting my body but I kind of draw the line there.

Ok, if you don't have18 years old yet:I please don't watch

Difference between wish and reality
Yeah that was a sad watch.

I'm not put off still but sad
When I posted this I only watched till he shot himself I remember seeing it a long time ago and I remember his parents walking in so sad. Pro´s of shotgun suicide to the chest is it won´t mess up your face and head.

And I doubt @spanishguy22 will do it at his parents home but tbh killing yourself in your home for your parents to find your corpse that is selfish especially if you blow your head off like KSG kid, but suicide in general is of course not selfish only when you force your parents to find your corpse their is no need for that.

Anyways I hope OP wants to do a shotgun to the head because there will be no pain just remember don´t put it under your chin and blow your face off and aim towards the brain because life is not a video game where you just aim for anywhere on the head, destroying the brain will kill you not your chin and face.

What's the shotgun gauge? I'm not sure if it matters but I do know a person irl who ended his life and with using a shotgun to the head. I hope whatever happens works out for you.

hey guys you know a lot about this so can you help me with this? thanks a lot

A worry popped out in my mind. Would a slug shotgun shot be so strong that it may go through the spine and leave me paralyzed? (aiming around the heart)
Could I use something like birdshot or a smaller bullet size, or weaker shotgun, in order to avoid this risk?
I should be dead anyway, but its for peace of mind more, I wouldnt like to be paralyzed from this even if death would be imminent. Just in case, I guess.

Given that the object is to destroy vital organs midway through the body, and to avoid a shoot-through, if it were me attempting it thus I'd probably use a 00 Buckshot round: a bunch of heavy ball-bearings rather than a slug.

I know so little about chest-shot suicides that I can't really address the chances of a failed attempt resulting in paralysis. I just don't know how likely that is. I suspect the internal hemmorraging would be catastrophic regardless. But then, O2 starvation from hemmorraging could also result in you becoming a vegetable, so...

I think your risks would be a lot less with a well-researched head-shot, but it's entirely up to you.

Alright man thanks, thats so helpful. As to the headshot, I haven't decided, but my fear is that I survive the HS and stay alive long enough to be rescued or stay in pain for like half an hour. I know it's really unlikely to not die from a shotgun HS, but it's how I am. Do you know how long it would take to bleed out from a shotgun HS?
Ok so buck 00 is best for chest. What would be the best bullet size and type for headshot? Thanks and sorry for taking your time.

Here the common gage is 12. If you shoot your chest with a slug, game over.

I feel like I need to reiterate that all my knowledge specific to suicide is theoretical. When I reply, I'm just guessing, and could easily be wrong. Bleed out time? I have no clue. Best ammo for a given shot? I'm guessing based on my experience with defensive loads.

Here's my bottom line advice on shotgun ammo: For contact-range suicide with a 12ga, damn near any ammunition, from #6 birdshot to a rifled slug, is going to do the job no matter which critical organ you point it at. The wad alone would be fatal at contact range, and if the wad somehow didn't do it, the amount of force delivered through any 12ga round is astonishing.

Buy some cheap "dove and quail" ammo (that's a lightweight birdshot) and take the shotgun to a range; shoot it at a couple nested 5gal plastic buckets, which is not much less durable a target than your bones. If you don't get a queasy feeling looking at the damage, you need to work on your imagination.

The only way a headshot with a shotgun won't be fatal is if you put it under your chin, or if you aim at the roof of your mouth. A brief search (trust me, you want to make it brief) through Google images will show you what a shotgun can do to a head. Chest shots are similarly devastating, and I just discovered there are some unpleasant examples of those on Google images as well.

Shotgun + any ammo + a modicum of research about where to aim = dead.
