Sharing information about methods

Many have no doubt thought about this before, but some obviously haven't. We need to be very careful when we speak in favour of a method, especially if it's not a well documented one. If the information or our arguments are incorrect we might condemn people, both members and guests, to a painful and agonizing death. We need to evaluate our sources carefully and/or present thoroughly-thought-through arguments, not simply quote the first source we find and guess. This is not criticism against anyone, because we all make mistakes and that certainly includes me, just a general observation.

And also not attempt to scare people will ill thought out, irrational, attention seeking guff that has no basis in fact or empirical evidence.

Not that I'm thinking about any particular person or thread specifically.

This cannot be stressed enough. It's a very serious subject and everyone should do their due diligence with research. This applies both to those giving and receiving advice.

You're right to stress the responsibility of the posters. But I think it is just as important to stress the responsibility of the readers, they should remember anyone can post here and that nothing posted here should be treated as unquestionable truth. Always do your own research if you are seriously considering a method to end your life.

Agreed, but if there's doubt, it must be uttered. Better safe than sorry must be the overarching principle.

By discussing yes, but not throwing around wild speculations based on nothing more than a random opinion.

That is as bad as poor information regarding positive claims about methods.
