I've created a document in which I'm detailing which affairs I'd like to settle before CBT. I have some loan repayments left to make and a small amount of debt to clear. This is not something I want my family to have to deal with. I would also like to cover funeral costs, etc.

I don't have a lot of possessions. Aside from settling financial affairs, I am not sure what practical steps I can take to make this less awful, if that's possible, for those I leave behind.

Has anyone else thought about this and if so, do you have any advice?

Its always good to settling affairs, if you dont want the ppl after your death dont have to deal with it much. I dont care about this really but I dont own much and I don't like my family, so they can deal with it:)

Yes. I've thought about this alot. I own a house and of course there's lots of crap in it. It's gotta go somewhere. I'm going to be updating my will and assigning my one friend to have the power of attorney for me. That way if I fail to ctb and am incapacitated they can legally make decisions on my behalf. I've gone thru a rough 30 years of mental illness. I'm glad I finally had the epiphany to be responsible and take care of things. I know all this preparation isn't for everyone- especially young people. For me it takes away some of the guilt I place on myself- which in the end makes the road to ctb less stressful.

Depending on what country you live in, and if you're married, your family might not have to deal with your debts. I live in the USA so when I cbt no one in my family has to pay my debts, of course they can always give them my address at the cemetery.

Yes- same as you- want to pay off my phone if I CTB. Also, I'm freelance and have to file tax returns- so I will get all the materials at least prepared if I can go before April.

Also made a will and appointed the solicitors as executors. They will arrange for a house clearance service to clear and sell my stuff- so my family don't have to deal with it.

I'll also likely prepay for a cremation service without a funeral. I live hundreds of miles from friends and family and by the time I go, it's likely I won't have any close family left.

My sister gets everything if she outlives me. She has all the documents. I have a burial plot my parents bought decades ago. I've told my sister I wish to be cremated and my cremains placed in the cheapest possible container. And no funeral or memorial service

That's not universal in the US. In states that have community property laws. the surviving spouse is responsible and the debtors can file liens against the person's estate. Arizona is one such state.

I looked into this and where I am (UK) my next of kin is not responsible for my debt if and when I die. I hadn't realised, so thanks for this.

The whole reason I want to CTB is because of my debts, which have had a knock onto ruining the rest of my life. Finding peace away from the stress of money and bills is what I dream of
