Does anyone else get a huge sense of relief when they delete a social media account? It's like I'm a bit more invisible and people can't see or gawk at me anymore. Kind of like I've cut certain people and events out of my life so it's no longer relevant anymore.

I've never been there (never set up a FB or anything), but I am always happy to hear when people do make the step. Social media is mostly a curse.

I have deleted all my social media a while ago. I have a Facebook account with 5-10 people that I rarely use. Not having social media does make you invisible in a way.

I haven't actually deleted my Facebook account, but I've decided not to use it anymore. It's one of best decisions I've made in recent years.

I stopped using FB, Twitter and IG this year because I hated how it made me feel. People publishing such a curated and edited version of their lives like it's perfection when in fact it probably isn't and by doing this feeds into not only their own depression and unease, but countless others too.

I believe if people were more honest on social media about their lives, then fewer people would suffer with generalised depression & anxiety. It's human nature to compare ourselves to others, that won't change. The only thing people can change is to represent themselves more honestly - but that is NEVER going to happen.

Pretty much this. I stopped using everything except Facebook, but even then its just for messenger and to keep in contact with family. What surprised me the most about going MIA on social media was how little of a shit people gave. All the people who like and comment on posts didn't even question why I just disappeared. For me, that just showed how fake social media and the things on it really are.

I deleted Facebook and Instagram over a year ago and I can honestly say I don't miss it one bit. I felt so much relief having it out of my life. The people I talk to a far and few now since I did that but I know they're people that actually want to be in my life.

You know you can deactivate your FB account and leave just messenger available

I got rid of Twitter and FB last year. Never been happier. I can't believe the time I wasted on those sites.

Yes, the lack of privacy and a life that seemed nothing more than shallow and superfluous made me sick. Why doesn't anyone show the truth on social networks? It seems that we feel a certain need to create a character in order to escape, the truth cuts deep. What a mess.

Used to have Facebook. I was never too much into it. I ve posted some pictures with me there. Removed it an year ago. I wanted to cut some old personal contacts from there. And I never posted what I truly wanted anyway. What I usually wanna share scares or makes people envy.
I'm much better without it, don't like my personal data to be shared too. And fb crossed too much this line. Specially with it's face recognition pathetic trying.
Than I made Instagram, no photos of me, I'm spending there around 5min per month to watch car photos. And I also don't like to share my life specially with relatives or people from my past or anyone actually.
What I don't like about social media /society at all/ Is that everybody presents to be what they are not, but they still expect to sell their cheap lies for something real.

Me neither, SS and similar forums are as close as I get to social media. I mean I know how to look someone up if I need to but I would not participate in typical social media even if I had the prettiest picture to paint on it. I know some people act harmless on there but most of it makes me nauseous.

Even having the means to create a character is more than I can say for myself but I hear what you're saying. It really is a clusterfuck.
