I usually don't post threads but in a recent therapy session my therapist talked about self compassion and talked about cuddling with a plush toy and talking to yourself in a loving way can help to deal with stark sadness and depression. And I have heard about inner child work before, but could never really get into it because it was quite heavy.
Anyway I am usually quite overwhelmed when I am sad, anxious, shameful or even angry and I have been trying to be more self compassionate. I caress my arm/chest/leg and talk to my inner child and try to be the soothing voice that my parents never gave me. And it feels really healing and relaxing when I do that. I wanted to share this because I feel a lot better and can regulate my feelings and emotions a lot better now. There is still potential but in a lot of ways it helps me. Anyway here is a video from the woman who contributed a lot to the "method" of self compassion. She also has a book and more videos if you are interested.
Have you heard of this before or are actively trying to be self compassionate towards yourself?
