I was always bullied and ostracised not to mention I'm still scarred by some horrific things teachers did and said to me.

Children and young people need an opportunity to learn obviously but I don't think it needs to take place in the authoritarian school system that's currently in place where teachers have too much power.

This is from a UK perspective of course but I think teachers need a way stricter form of conduct where they have to actually be mindful of the things they do and say.

There are too many bigoted and ignorant teachers that are insensitive to cultural backgrounds, sexuality, mental health issues or neurodivergency.

Speaking about a pupils personal appearance or making comments on their level of intelligence shouldn't be allowed at all in any context.

You also shouldn't be allowed to scream at students as if they're your children either, especially not to the point where you make them cry. It's abuse.

The whole system needs to be scrapped and rebuilt.

I'm sorry to hear about your experiences with school.
It has been years since I've been in a public education system (USA), but let me tell you, once its over - life gets a lot better (in that regard!)

You are completely right, it should not be allowed, and is prohibited. I would suggest reaching out to a social consular at your school, perhaps even anonymously if possible, and make note of it to them.
I hope this situation improves for you. Remember, school is temporary, and once its over, its done with. You'll never have to look back at it again if you don't want to.

Yes, I can relate, school was terrible for me as well. I am glad to be free from it. Teachers think they have rights to act this way because they are in an position of authority when really they should see pupils as fellow humans and they should treat them as equal. There is just too much pressure involved as well. I found that kind of environment detrimental and I found learning more efficient when I came to do it on my own.

Oh I'm not in school at the moment. I'm 23. I was just reflecting on past experiences that really bothered me and I see the damage that the school system has on other people.

Oh god same thing from a US perspective :(
Compulsory education is not okay

Wolves don't actually form alpha beta hierarchies in nature, only in captivity
So why do children bully each other? BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT FREE
They are merely crudely copying, towards each other, what adults are subtly doing to them
So adults like teachers, parents, who force children to follow their will, have no legitimacy to say they are "anti bullying"
they themselves are the archetype that the bully is copying

We need childcare, school fills that void.
But why are parents, extended families, communities, so unable to provide childcare otherwise? Because they are forced to toil away at pointless wage labor.
And why are youth kept in school by force for years past the age when there's a need for childcare? Just to control them.

Many societies didn't teach their kids about the world by *separating* them from the world (as schooling does), but by *involving* them in it - in the life of the city, in apprenticeships, in coming-of-age rites.
Deschooling Society by Illich gets into this.

Sudbury models of student-lead learning aren't unschooling per se, they're trapped in the same capitalist system as anything else, but they're interesting. Summerhill by AS Neil is a good read too.

School shouldn't exist.
Online lessons are okay. Damn bullies and bad people.

Well, at least, most of them end up being some losers who work as slaves lol.

When I got older and reflected back on my school life, I realised that most of my primary school teachers were actually really sadistic/narcissistic, who enjoyed emotionally and mentally torturing us. They only got away with it because we (as young children) didn't know any better. We just accepted that it was "normal" and we were "the problem" (and not them).

A classic example.... how many of us thought that the OFSTED inspector was there to judge us, and if we misbehaved, something bad would happen to us? How old were you when you realised they they were there to judge the teacher on how they tackled problems in the classroom? -_-

School is like prison, but for children. My secondary school was so rough that some of the windows even had bars over them, it gave the feeling of being an inmate; just replace the criminal gangs with pointless cliques and you have the perfect immersive experience.

I used to think school was in the wrong, I used to think that other students were in the wrong, but I realized that throughout my entire school life I was at fault, because I'm a mentally damaged subhuman. Teacher should be more strict, maybe if like in the old days I got the shit beaten out of me every time I did something stupid I would have been able to repress my mental retardation to a degree that i would have fit into society.

For me, whether or not a person has ever seriously considered this possibility is one of the litmus tests for whether they're actually an open-minded personality type or just an Open-Minded™ person.

Anyway, I have. Although I still think it's a sad and usually not entirely reasonable way to think of things. I'm sorry you feel that way about yourself.

Free thinkers tend to have a hard time in our current school systems. It's mainly designed to drive out rebelliousness as much as possible, and transform kids into automatons that support the established hierarchies.

There are two places. And i don't want to insult anyone, if I do please tell me and I will delete my post. I wouldnt like to go to school in the us and uk. I'm with you all. It is not a pleasant experience I've heard in first hand. I admire your courage to endure it day by day. Soon you will be out.
