Lonely in a room full of people…

Logged in today to find the message below appearing, but as far as I can tell, I can still see all content (I'm in UK).

The wording is slightly contradictory, "make all content unavailable in the UK" —> "content that violates the Online Safety Bill will not be viewable to the public"

So can I clarify; will all content be made unavailable for UK, if so, has that already happened? If not, when will it happen?

Or is it that only content that violates the OSBill will be hidden?

OR is it that all content will be unavailable to an un-registered/not logged in member in the UK?

Need to know because if the steps have already been taken, I can't notice anything missing so I don't even care about the change. If the change hasn't yet happened but will, ie hide all content, then I'll need to look into a VPN.

And of course let's take a moment to say a Royal 'fuck you' to tantacrul, the BBC, the NYT, OFCOM, and anybody else Trying to take away the only place I have ever found where I can speak my mind without judgement 🙃

In the same country that it's set in as well LMAO...

But yeah, this is literally just the government trying to limit the amount of knowledge available to the public, even if it is harmless to other people (although that's arguable.) Thank God information about VPNs is quite widespread, or at least not hard to find, but that still means that it might not show up on search engines like Google here in the U.K, making this site hard to find if not impossible to the wider British public, unless it's covered by the news again.

Also quite scary on what they know. What would happen if you ordered something like SN and they could see your plans to CTB and then interrupt them? That's forced living in the most basic sense, and I wouldn't be surprised if it happened within the next few years or decades....

i don't know what sanctioned suicide has chance to make itself compliant with the online safety bill but using a new web browser to view sanctioned suicide from the uk everything is still visible in the uk so i just don't think anything has changed at all

The crazy things is, the methods that people will find out about from visiting a website will usually be ones that are less messy and costly than ones which everyone knows without having to research anything.
So blocking information on other methods and blocking the ability to source the equipment is only going to cause people to resort to jumping, slitting wrists, electrocution and so on.
The site owners/mods have made their stance clear that they are not encouraging suicide but respect people's choice and are aware mental health services are not working almost everywhere, but the UK government has it's fingers in it's ears just like it always does when it comes to real issues - not least because all Tory governments act upon what happened, not the reasons why. Not that I think Labour or the others would do any better, I'm just commenting on the party in office at the moment.

We are definitely living in a dystopian world right now and it's going to get much worse.
Just take a look at Chinas social credit system to get a glimpse of the worlds future.

I like accessing SS from my phone though, it's handy

Can you get TOR on your phone?

I am looking into ExpressVPN rn, prices seem fair and can use it on my phone

Yeah Tor is on phones I think. Android definitely, iPhone - who's to say, probably not unless you pull some shenanigans.

And honestly, a VPN is a VPN. Most mainstream ones are decent enough, although if prompted by authorities (which is unlikely - I doubt they're going to go to that much effort to find out who you are), most services will give up who you are, besides a select few 'underground'-ish VPNs.

Again, not that it matters though.

Yes, if on android I know you can download the TOR browser from the Google play store for free.
It's also more secure than a vpn.

I have iPhone and just spent some time looking up the TOR variants for iOS and gotta say, doesn't look good.

For iOS I guess the best option is just a VPN.

Social credits in China, this in the UK, what else will they add in from 1984? The telescreens, one can debate, already exist as well as some form of thought police (albeit not as successful as the ones in the book). How long until they legit have someone make a veil and use it to "unperson" ie basically execute those they deem unfit for society?

I'm still able to access on my normal browser, but preparing myself for the day I won't be able to 😢 I'm not great with technology but have a VPN downloaded.. will try that one first before looking at TOR. I also kind of feel that if they were planning to block the site it would have happened by now. I dunno ….

I personally use Windscribe. A free VPN. No bad experiences so far. They also have an app on iOS. With an account, you get 10GB of data per month.

That should be fine, TOR would just essentially do for you what a VPN would, albeit more advanced (in many ways). But at the core of it, all you need is your IP to look like it's any country other than the UK, which is what any VPN should do for you

Atleast, for the needs of accessing this specific site it's fine. As someone else mentioned, if the FBI/police etc were to legally request your information from a VPN provider, most would hand the info over, but in theory there's no reason that would ever ever happen when just accessing a forum site like this….. so you should be okay with just VPN!

I've gone with ExpressVPN for now, will test it this eve and post on this thread if I can still access everything :)

I can't access SS with SurfShark VPN without disabling CleanWeb.

Free ProtonMail is zero logs and connects to SS perfectly.

I tried my TOR browser and beside being very slow it won't load the method megathreads.

I use Free Proton VPM which seems to work ok, other people say Windscribe is good
But as far as I can see, for the moment, nothing has changed here.
