feeling like ss becomes less active, have seen that its also no longer listed in most popular search engines like nsaGoogle, duckduckgo and ecosia.

they seem to have put it on their blacklist. its a very sad thing, i slowly lose faith in humanity...

another weird thing i saw was duckduckgo somehow knowing my username, not sure how they manage that, always clearing my cookies and accessing site with direct link..

I don't like search engines when we are looking for something specific, so I use VPN. There are cases when for different countries totally different results. I don't even talk about YouTube videos blocked in your region.

As long as the staff never block any Tor IP addresses from accessing the site, this option will always be available for you. As far as I am informed, none of the admins want to block access to Tor with the exception of registering for an account with the site.

In Australia, the site is blocked on most ISP's, but you can still view results on Google. Definitely hasn't been removed.

Idk why but I'm weirdly fine with that. Provide help for those that want it but it's easy to bypass. I've used those links before, and appreciated they were there. I'm not sure I would now, but my past self appreciated it.

It took a little bit of digging for me to find SS. Not much, but looking back it definitely felt like some search engine boondoggling was going on.

I'm all for search engines burying this place. Suppression of a message is a lot different from censorship. If someone really needs / wants the info here, they'll keep looking until they find it and if they don't, they'll eventually move on.

We don't need every person who googles "how to kill yourself" to end up here or else we'd be in a lot more trouble than having random Facebook groups and petitions rallying against us.

I found some online petition to take down this website, so it's possible that some governements will censor it.

In my country a recent law was accepted to force ISP to remove access to some website in the hour after a police request without any intervention from a judge, that mean the police can block every thing they want just because there is illegal or immoral content / comments (yes, it's also work with the comments from any visitor), and they don't specify what's is it's called "immoral" (they called this "law against online hate", that mean every thing that can be related to hate or something that the governement or the moral don't want to see is now prohibited).

Oh and it's an European country, not china ...

I tried searching for SS on DuckDuckGo (from outside of Germany), and it was the first result that came up.

Hopefully this censorship/blocking is kept to a minimal. Governments are under the impression that pro-choice communities are responsible for promoting suicide like some type of cult, and that by cracking down on them it will stop deaths, but it won't. Pro-choice communities are a symptom of wanting to CTB not the cause of it. People come here because they have no where else to turn.

In most circles in the real world or online suicidal individuals cannot seek support, because of the fear of being ridiculed or berated, as suicide goes against the morals of most societies. Pro-choice groups solve this by framing suicide as morally neutral. This removes any stigma associated with wanting to CTB and allows people to truly share their feelings. In turn this opens up a discussion which could potentially lead to a person reconsider wanting to take their own life... But only if that's what they want of course. Communities like Sanctioned Suicide probably do more to help those in a dark place than the "suicide prevention" or "pro-life" movements. If anything censoring places like SS will do more damage than good.
