Can you use a riot shotgun to CTB? I've looked at the mega threads but nothing mentioned riot shotguns.

I don't have personal experience with riot shotguns but my layman's understanding is they're very similar to other types of shotguns, just with different dimensions which make them more suitable for close combat and maneuverability. Compared to a longer sporting/hunting shotgun meant to be used outdoors and with no need for a large magazine capacity.
If the riot shotgun was made to fire regular lethal ammunition then I don't see why it wouldn't work. In fact, the shorter barrel length should make it easier to aim at oneself.
What I would NOT ever do is use any "less-lethal" ammunition like beanbags or rubber pellets. I don't actually know if those would work or not but my instinct tells me it's definitely not worth finding out.

Lethal 12g ammo is manufactured in both 2 3/4" long shells as well as 3" long shells. The ammo should say how long it is (in inches) and the caliber (12g) on the box.
Full disclosure, I haven't purchased a firearm or ammo myself. I would recommend double checking with your dealer if a certain ammo will work with a certain gun. My knowledge is mostly from the internet.

gosh. i have heard that with shotguns, its not like regular ammunition, 12ga actually shatters like shrapnel rather then a solid bullet pierces though.
i am in a country with strict gun laws so i have never had one and im not a expert, just things that i've heard. likely more effective than a handgun if you can handle the recoil. thats might where you might misfire. please don't quote me on that info
