Why don't adults have the right to end their life, but women have a right to end the life of an unborn baby?

In the UK, we had a crime drop in the 90's, which none of the criminology experts thought was going to happen, which tied into when abortion became legal (it began 20 something years after, when aborted criminals would otherwise have been starting their criminal careers).

Whether you buy into the theory that there was a correlation between the two is up to you. But whether true or not, I think it raises an important point. That if you don't allow for abortion, you force people to have children that they dont want and/or cant afford to support, so they're born into incredibly poor circumstances, and in many cases will go on to contribute poorly to society, and lead difficult lives.

I agree that we need to address euthanasia, and cater for it where appropriate - but I think that we're pretty bang on with our abortion laws (in the UK at least). We shouldn't force people into lives where they're not wanted.

Exactly the same can be said for euthanasia. While abortion is about an unwanted life from the mothers perspective, euthanasia is about an unwanted life from the persons perspective that lives it. It is never good to force people into unwanted lives.

I think that several factors (other than religion) comes into play as to why euthanasia and the right to die is forbidden, illegal, and/or outlawed in many jurisdictions and countries around the world are due to the fact of secular humanism (the concept that life is good and life is valuable while death is not), mental illness and irrationality, and some other unspoken reasons (people might acknowledge and know but they don't really say it out loud) such as being alive for family and others (selfishness of others that they project onto others who don't share their opinion, values, views on life), and of course, government wanting it's citizens alive (regardless of whether they are miserable) in order to keep society (a sick and fucked up one at that) to function.

As for abortion, there has even been an argument that before a certain stage, it is not considered a 'human' being or a sentient being at all. Of course there are religious people and conservative people who would argue against it and all that, but I digress.

You can bridge the moral gap between pro life and right to die by ending as much suffering as possible, as the buddha taught. Though I think aboration shouldnt be completely banned, i think we should make it harder to do and also euthanize the fetuses. which would go a long way in ending suffering.

Brilliant.

I do hope you'll reconsider your desire to make it harder to act on the choice for abortion by considering other perspectives of people who may already have nearly insurmountable hurdles to access the choice. Are you willing and capable to take on the role of judge and jury, and to fix the problems of everyone who seeks to take the option against your judgment? That's quite a burden. Are you being just in seeking to burden others?

No judgement here, and no desire to argue or derail. You don't have to defend or justify yourself to me or to anyone. I chose to respond to your words from my heart, and I recognize that you have heart, too. We are both imperfect humans, and I work from the assumption that you have good intentions and do your best, otherwise I would attack your position rather than try to compassionately reason. You've done nothing to merit that.

But yeah this applies to adults as well.. for one reason or another, we are forced to lead difficult lives that we wouldn't have to, had our parents decided not to have intercourse. Bleah
Should we ask our mothers to hire hitmen so we can Ctb surreptitiously then?
