I live in an apartment with a roommate, although he lives upstairs and my bedroom is downstairs. The door to the stairs that lead to my room downstairs has no lock, and he usually comes downstairs every so often to use the shared closet down here. My bed is mostly secluded so its unlikely he would see me unless he peaked in. Originally I had planned to book an airbnb or hotel but I'm not great with planned ctb dates and worry I won't go through with it and waste all that money and time. I think if I were to do it it would have to be impulsive and in my bedroom.

I could organize a time where I know he's out and ctb then, and send a timed email to my parents to let them know what happened and to call the police. I do feel really weird and bad about doing it here though, and am scared that him knowing I ctb'd here would be traumatizing in a sense. But I really don't think buying a hotel room for a couple nights would actually make me ctb 100% and I might just waste my money.

What do you guys think?

I would say if you can plan a date, it could be a good idea to do so. Obviously having the guarantee of being alone for a specified amount of time is beneficial and would decrease the chances of someone trying to intercept your suicide. I think the chance your roommate would be traumatized is quite real, but if you were to commit suicide in a hotel you may also traumatize any hotel staff who would possibly find you.

What method do you plan to use?

Thanks for your reply. I'm planning to use sn following stan's guide. I'd fast for 8+ hours, then take 4-6mg of klonopin, 30mg meto, and then sn. My biggest fear is panicking and calling for help. Hotels, even the cheap ones where I live, aren't cheap. And I don't necessarily trust myself to do it on a planned date so idk

I think if you were sure your roommate would not be home it could work. I've never really looked into SN, but from what I understand it takes multiple hours to work to a point of you not being savable. I would insure that you have an excess of time to ensure there is no chance of your roommate finding you and activating EMS.

Wherever you choose to do it, I think you could try to put a large sign behind an entrance to stop people going any further and, call the authorities. Out of the three, personally, I think the hotel would be the kindest option. I would think you could definitely block the entrance there. It must still be horrible for them but, I imagine they do have protocols in place for suicides. An Air B&B I feel would be the worst. Just the thought of someone returning to their home to find a corpse.

Hey
I know we're not supposed to encourage, so please don't see it as such. I can just tell you what I bought & have recommended to others.
I got a good one but there's cheap ones on Amazon apparently - travel door locks for internal doors. Mine is a jammer that goes under the door. As an extra precaution, knowing that as good as my sign may be, I can't control my own adrenal responses, so I know I can't control other people's. I don't want to be found by a civilian- it would literally prevent me from doing it altogether. Best of luck with your bus or your recovery.

Hey, thanks for your reply. So do you plan to do it in a hotel or your place? Do you think I could do it at my place if I put the travel door lock on the door that leads downstairs to my room? My roommate lives upstairs. I'd obviously wait until he's out of the house for a long period of time, but I still feel bad about doing it in the same house. I don't have the money right now to be spending on a hotel room nor am I confident that I will follow through with a set ctb date (which I'd have to if I booked a hotel). I wish you the best in what you choose as well.

I still haven't decided where. But no matter where, there'll be a sign on the door & the door jammer in the room. They work on any internal door. I think it'll help me mentally as well, with the SI & the guilt.
