Venting [Reddit] "Just abandon your depressed friend"

I'm so tired of going on reddit and looking at this from the outside perspective, hoping to find some advice I can apply to help myself only to be met with the same rhetoric of "You need to focus on yourself, abandon them, they're only dragging you down with them" followed up by "But if they talk about suicide, just call the cops." Like, bitch, what am I supposed to do? No one cares enough to help, yet I can't end my suffering, pick one or the other, you can't have both and still call yourself a good person. I can understand depression being too much for friends and family to bear, but when no one wants to help? Really? If I'm that worthless to you then at least let me die with dignity.

TL:DR: I'm sick and tired of seeing this "If they're too much, just abandon them." rhetoric being thrown around. Empathy is dead.

Kinda yeah. «This is a wild game of survival», as the song says. Nobody truly cares if we live, or, what matters more, if we're happy with our life. Of course, others can help us, and sometimes they can be of great help, but in the end they all give up. And that's alright, in fact I actually think it's amazing. Everybody should just focus on themself and their own life, imho. It makes CTBing easier.

Yup these are the same people that will tell you you're selfish if you commit suicide. It's the same with my entire family. I'm too much to be around because I'm not "well" and because I want to die with dignity it must mean I'm not "getting help". My whole family has abandoned me yet through a text message I'm told how much I'm missed by "some". My family dug my grave long before this. I know I'll never see them again when I CTB, and it's because I don't even want to be around them in heaven. I'm tired of the fakes and frauds. I'll be saying, "Never again, sick sad world....never again".

Yeah, most people are phony and will gaslight you if you call them out about it. I've learned that the best way to deal with these frustrations is by acceptance. Don't let them act like your crazy for acknowledging the truth, don't think about their fakeness, and allow it to make you upset, don't try to change it, just accept it, and look for a different solution to deal with your depression. It will keep you from wasting time & energy, and you won't feel like their fool, because at the end of the day while you're miserable about it, they are living their lives feeling like they are good people.

If someone's mental health struggles are too much to be around, people are totally entitled to set boundaries. In the same way, those who are struggling are entitled to choose death if their struggles are too much to bear alone.

I lost my spouse, most my friends, and significant financial loss over a 6 month mania after neuro illness and effexor withdrawal. The depression I've experienced since this happened has been unfathomable.

People want to outsource compassion to overpriced therapists, who are bound by law to maintain emotional distance due to the assumption of professionalism. This is a house of cards waiting to fall. The lack of unconditional love is becoming a nail in the coffin of so many.

Yeah I'm really struggling with the fact that my family says they want me to live but they don't even talk to me. I certainly don't believe they love me and i find it kind of selfish and unreasonable that they think I should live so they won't feel sad but they really add nothing to my life.

Not sure where you found these types of messages, but I used to lurk in the depression subreddit, and occasionally post in suicidewatch, and it was super depressing how nobody cared. I posted over and over just wanted someone to talk to and i would get zero interaction but then some random new account would always be at the top with the most likes and comments. I feel like most of Reddit is fake. You can tell because like 90% of the most controversial/viral reddit posts are made on throwaway accounts. I've always seen it as a more widely accepted version of 4Chan.

I'd say to Reddit lines up with the dead internet theory...or at pretty close comparison. To me it felt easily over 75% of people on major subreddits everyone is like a fucking White Claw and Natural light drinking dudebrahs. I fucking can't stand reddit.
