so in my book theres a question: will i fully recover or will i always be recovering? im curious what your thoughts are

i personally feel its both. although you are yes always recovering after a while it becomes just something you do because youve been doing it for so long that you dont think about it so technically in that sense you would be recovered.

I agree with you, I think it's both. That was the hard part about being diagnosed with EUPD for me, the idea that I will never be fully recovered because it's just who I am. I try to think in periods of being well/unwell, makes it easier. But I agree that if you've been in recovery for a long time that you could be considered recovered, really interesting question

I think it depends on what your definition of "recovery" is.

If your goal is to never have suicidal ideation or thoughts ever again, then you will always be recovering because the thoughts will still come from time to time.

If your goal is to learn to accept those thoughts and not give them power over you, then perhaps you will truly recover fully. It's all in how you look at the recovery process.

Those were just two examples out of so many more things recovery could be about, but I think it's also important to remember that your recovery process will change as you go through it. That means the answer to your question could change over time.

I''ll give you my situation, you know some. I was born into hell. I first tried to hurt myself at 12- a bottle of vitamins LMAO what did I know I was 12. I thought it would get me away from the abuse of my father. He died when I was 15. 6 months later I met my first boyfriend who was more evil than my father. We were together about a yr and a half I guess. From about 16 1/2 maybe close to 17 cant remember-part way into 18 I would self harm and get drunk and try to CTB on impulses. I spent time in and out of psych. Cancer at 18 kept me really busy. Son at 20-AH HA Love light happiness... I have ALWAYS been depressed and had anxiety. My son gave me a reason to LIVE.. I was able to keep it all in control but yes I had to keep working on it. Doc would give me xanax for the last 13yrs which has been a huge help. I haven't seen a counselor or therapist since I was a teenager. Since my sons death I really have needed therapy but no one takes my insurance.

So I will say you will always be recovering. Some things that have happened in our lives- come back and haunt us out of no where. A man yelling in a grocery store I freak out and have issues. The most important thing is to keep trying. I have 48 years here. If I managed to CTB as a 17 yr old teenager I would have missed out on some really wonderful meaningful amazing things. We find coping skills- mine was being a mom. I went through times of depression but it wasn't like it was as a teenager. I have social issues, anxiety. I only let a small handful of people into my life. That's always been there. We only need 1 TRUE good friend... so you are right- you can recover and always be recovering....

addiction you will always be recovering. I never did drugs, I liked drinking to much. I avoid it because I know since my son died I will do something on impulse drunk and it wont end how I want it to. I spent years sober and spurts where I would get drunk twice a month. I never was a daily drinker I was a I cant drink enough drinker..drank till it was all gone and wanted more
