Something that often irritates me is how people consider fiction to be more disturbing than reality, "no son you can't play this game it's violent" "you can't watch this movie it's R-rated" and then they'll broadcast the events of 9/11 on live television when everyone has their TVs tuned to the news 24/7 in front of their kids, you can watch people die and see natural disasters happen and terrorist attacks but god forbid a kid sees a pair of tits or plays a first person shooter.

I find violent video games and serial killer movies to be quite relaxing actually, sometimes you just need to kill a few people to relieve stress.

Maybe I even find the news fun at this point, world is a giant clown show anyway.

Well, I mean, not all parents show their kids graphic news. I'm happy to say I didn't see the jumpers till I was 16~ and I've still never seen a cartel execution or any other extremely graphic gore. I hope to keep it that way till I die

But yeah, none of it matters too much. I only keep up with current events and politics for funsies and so I can discuss stuff

very early exposure to pornography effectively ruined my brain. early unrestricted internet access for children is arguably the worst thing you could provide a child as a parent, in my opinion. the detritus of the internet is often that which can be accessed the easiest. there's obviously something far more impressionable to children in graphic content than real life tragedies broadcasted on the news, which are often not overly graphic in nature, though that might vary

Reality is worse by way of the fact that it's actually happening.

Over time, I've found I've become less inclined towards certain forms of fiction because reality is already so bad. With so much darkness and mean-spiritedness in the real world, I just don't want to see as much of that in fiction anymore.

As for what kids are watching, I feel like parental guidelines and age-based media ratings are generally in line with what a child's brain can handle. If parents want to be more restrictive or have looser restrictions, I'm not really inclined to meddle in their choices, although I may quietly judge them depending on how far they're deviating.

Maybe I even find the news fun at this point, world is a giant clown show anyway.
The world is certainly a giant clown show, but I don't find any entertainment value in it. Now, it just makes me tired, and I try to keep tuned out of it as much as possible.

I agree. Reality is worse. I like fiction which is why I daydream a lot. I spend a lot of time daydreaming

It's just a matter of wanting to protect and guide children to positive things because it shocks some parents if their children's attention is focused on these things (even if they were like them when they were young). To children is only a form of amusement thought.
