Has anyone here had any success with Saint John's Wort? I was thinking about buying some and taking one per day or one every other day to see if it had any effect. If you had any success, what dosage did you use, and how often did you take them? I will likely air on the side of caution and attempt a lower dosage and a less frequent schedule to start off.

I am worried about the side-effects however. I'm most worried about the nausea/dizzyness in relation to my job, and the sexual dysfunction in relation to my art hobby. (My sexuality is my inspiration for my art.) I've read of people having anhedonia because of it, which also worries me. How likely are any of these side effects?

I took it and I didn't have any side effects but it also didn't help either. For context I have taken generic meds before like Prozac and Zoloft and had bad side effects. It's supposed to be pretty natural so I doubt you will experience anything extreme.

I have been taking it daily now for almost 2 years. 3 pills a day at 300mg each. However, I can't honestly say if it has helped. I can reasonably say it hasn't hurt other than costing a little bit of money that might have been saved. I def felt more depressed/suicidal before starting to take it, but some things changed in my life around that same time which could very well be the reason and not the St John's Wort. That being said, I stick with it as I'm afraid stopping will bring me back to where I was before and it has no real side effects for me like some of the stronger script meds, so continuing with it seems like a safe play. I want to try weening off it at some point just to test its effectiveness, but want to try to get some things sorted out first before testing it. Hope this helps.

There are some meds that interact badly with st Johns wort but I can't bring to memory which ones. I'd do a search to check for interactions with any meds you're one.

Some sing the praises of St Johns wort where others say it does nothing. Same can be said for various meds and even some recreational drugs. Benzos for example. So I say give it a try as long as it doesn't interact with your meds. You can probably get a feel for how well it does or doesn't work for you and stop using it if needed, before any issues are irreversible. Fingers crossed for you. : )

It's good stuff, and always worth a try. Don't expect a huge effect, it's subtle but the effects seem to get better the longer you drink it.
