Does exercise actually do well in replacing sh in general?

And what about eating spicy food? Things like carrying around a ghost pepper or something else that is painfully spicy and slowly nibbling that throughout the day, how effective would it be in general?

Exercise has worked for quite a few of my friends and fellow patients. So I would definitely give it a try.

As for extremely spice, I could maybe see that work if you do it sometimes. But doing it constantly might turn into a different form of self harm, as you can damage your stomach wall.

Excercise or the TIP technique is nice. Or maybe snapping a hairtie on ur wrist. Also just going through a whole plan with steps that go further in intensitivity is okay too. Nice to have a full guide ready for yourself. I did it in theraphy

I found that a brisk walk with angry music (preferably somewhere private in case there is screaming or crying to be had) has helped prevent me self harming 70%ish of the time. Or at least put it off.

I feel like it would depend on the person, and, so many other things. But, there's no hurt in trying it. Exercices, the elastic trick, writing or drawing on your skin, maybe even slightly putting ice on it

i havent self harmed in almost two years and i've been running everyday after i got clean. I still get urges but it's been a good replacement too far. on the other side i still inadvertently hurt myself since i end up with callouses and there was the one time i injured my ankle and kept running on it anyway.

I've been sober and clean for years. Someday, I'll abstain from sh as well.

it rather worked for me but didn't exactly replaced it. I had to stop cutting since I was swimming and I really didn't want to have an infection again, especially because these can get real bad. now I had to take a break from sports tho and my urges came back worse :p

Self harm may be the development of a mechanism to give a feeling of control. This can be in response to feelings of fear, anxieties, self-hate, or punishment. Developing alternative or additional control mechanisms can be helpful as well as reducing causational factors.

Yeah, it's a powerful way to self regulate, but definitely not the healthiest of best option.
Very easy to fall into addiction patterns with sh.
