No, I haven't done shrooms myself. However, I have more faith in psilocybin (from magic mushrooms) to treat depression and other mental illnesses than in the current bunch of drugs prescribed by psychiatrists. Initial studies show the same, according to this report.

On the topic of psychedelics to treat mental illness, I hope researchers also work on the Spirit Molecule or DMT.

I just finished reading "Lost Connections" by Johann Hari and psychedelics came up. I know nothing of them and never did them, but the way the author and the people he interviews describes it is it's kind of a quick-start to long term meditation results, meaning the effects of psychedelic use is similar to the effect that people who have been meditating for many years can experience. The book is his interviews with doctors and other scientists so it's not just a guy saying go "do this", and the treatment process was under medical care not random people doing it on their own. The caution being that the effects can be therapeutic but also scary. Anyway, it's a pretty decent book and had a lot points that I also feel are effecting me, his conclusions can be a bit "pie in the sky" though.

Psychadelics and weed had made my life much more tolerable. They have done more for me than either of the antidepressants I was on.

I have not really done a proper macrodose of anything in a long time. Used to do psychedelics at least once a month when I was like 17. Definitely might need to venture into that territory.

im in microdosing groups on facebook and it seems to be working for a lot of people. it can help end addictions overnight. a macrodose has ended my benzo dependence, and i stopped smoking the ciggies, thats something good but microdosing hasnt made me happier day to day.

I micro dose with psilocybin. It helps more than any other medication I've used. Happy to answer any questions you may have about my experience.

If you don't mind me asking, where do you source your psilocybin from? Do you buy it legally or from an underground source?

You did a macrodose of shrooms & you didn't have a psychedelic experience/"trip"? That's how psilocybin works...

my trip actually had nothing to do with substances... my trip was about life and death... i saw life and death before my eyes, the cycle of life. i cant explain what that looked like. but there was a moment i was looking up in the sky and i would see someone i knows face, and then their face would turn into a skull, symbolizing that we will all die. i stopped looking at the sky because i didnt want to see my moms face. i started crying. it was terrifying.

You just described a psilocybin-induced psychedelic experience. Your trip had everything to do with shrooms, that kind of stuff happens when you ingest them. That's how psychedelic substances work. :))

Do you think that you learned something profound about the nature of life & death? Are you "spiritual" now? I've done psychedelics many times & I've had beautiful, mind-blowing hallucinations about God & the universe & I've cried like a baby & shit, but I'm still an atheist with C-PTSD who's addicted to Xanax.

i have been spiritual since birth. i have a fear of aging when it comes to mental deterioration because i have had issues since i was a teen and i dont want to see it evolve with age. i still have this fear and will ctb because of it. i didnt really learn anything new, i just saw it before my eyes in a different way
btw i want to hear about your profound experiences
but maybe we are going against the forum rules of going slightly offtopic
i have my own thread about macrodose experiences

If you haven't tried any psychedelics yet but want to, and you have any healthy amount of fear about where they can take you, find a way to do it with an experienced guide. I tried mushrooms and LSD on my own for a year or so by myself at home (well, then-girlfriend was around to support me but she's not a guide) and had a very frustrating experience. Although I never had a really bad trip, I never went deep and experienced big relief because I was always terrified of where things could turn and I knew I didn't have someone experienced to guide me out of a sticky situation.

Then I tried ketamine therapy, because it's the only legal psychedelic therapy and you can get an experienced guide (i.e. psychiatrist) if you live in the right region. That didn't work either, sadly. It seems psychedelic therapy just isn't for me. So, temper your expectations; It may not be a magic bullet. But if you can find a reputable guide/psychiatrist, it's certainly worth a shot.

That's how it was described in the book when he wrote about them being used for kicking sustance use. I'd be interested in trying it, maybe ask my doc what's up.

Esketamine is used for depression now, though difficult to access in my country.
Highly effective, so I hear.

Shroomery is possibly the single best website for you to learn everything about mycology (mushrooms). I am in no way advocating anything illegal. However, most of the ways to grow legal mushrooms (shitake, oyster, lions mane, etc.) can also be used to grow the (currently in most countries) illegal kind.

There is a lot of promise and hope for microdosing and macrodosing. Browse reddit for anecdotal data on the effectiveness. I believe that mushrooms will become common therapy eventually.

Lastly, anyone reading this that decides to take more than .5 grams of mushrooms for the first time. PLEASE HAVE A BABYSITTER WITH YOU TO TAKE CARE OF YOU AND KEEP OTHERS SAFE

Reading about new research like this always gives me some optimism, even if not for myself. I hope some day new options like this become commonplace. Maybe it could help me. But I'm not going to wait around indefinitely to find out.

Based on personal experience, it can be a mixed bag and bad trips can be just as life altering. I had one good experience and then one incredibly bad trip. It was positively terrifying as I thought I was dead and in hell. Yes, I appreciate this was the representation of an ego death, but it was also on the side of a bona fide psychotic break as well. Thankfully it wore off (and that's what you need to keep repeating to yourself and have written down nearby). I have used smaller doses since, but they made me incredibly anxious and depressed. I'm not sure whether it was the strain/producer or what, but I will never go back unless under the care of a doctor.

Microdosing appears to be helpful, especially with the right strain and from a trusted producer. It is a very subjective thing and hopefully you are under the care of a physician or at bare minimum, you're purchasing from a trusted producer who has provided conservative usage guidelines (that you've researched as well).

Try to do as much research as possible before you buy/use and also ensure you have someone who can either be there or check on you, especially if it's your first time. There are plenty of related subreddits RE their use and believe it or not, they're actually quite helpful in terms of dosages and what to expect.

Just to be clear, I'm not trying to scare anyone off…like any substance, we all react differently. I know some swear by ketamine and yeah…not my bag.

Just take things slow, ensure you have a scale, have a trip sitter and stay away from taking too much your first time. Also (and this is important): DO NOT take them if you're in the middle of a depressive episode or you're just overall not feeling well. They have a habit of magnifying what you're feeling and believe me, there is nothing worse than a panic attack * 10 and a depressive episode * 1000. I obviously know where I'm posting and most of us are in a dark place, but coming from a place of experience, do not take them unless you're under the care of a doc or taking actual micro doses.
