Get your fucking flu shot!
The entire world is panicking about the coronavirus, but the flu is a much bigger threat.
According to the CDC, 8.6 to 12 million people have visited health-care providers complaining of influenza-like symptoms, such as fever, coughing, sneezing and aches since the flu season began in Oct, 2019. As many as 310,000 have been hospitalized, and 68 children have died.
The entire school district serving Knoxville and Knox County, Tenn., which has 57,800 students, shut down this past week because of flu circulating among students and staff. In Cuyahoga County, Ohio, 218 people have died and 2,500 have shown up in the ER in Cleveland alone. According to the CDC, during the 2018-2019 flu season (the latest with complete data available), only 45.3 percent of adults and 62.6 percent of children received flu shots. Data of this flu season isn't complete because this flu season isn't over yet, but the number of flu vaccines administered to date is much less than needed to cover the nation.
On the other hand, only a handful of coronavirus cases have been reported in the US, none of them fatal or apparently even life-threatening.
