Some "friends" were discussing suicide and doing the whole routine about how it hurts the people left behind, which shows lack of understanding and compassion. I don't want to kill myself just for fun, the main reason is because I already feel like a bad person, and I don't even think anyone would care if I died. So why would prolifers think this is going to prevent suicide? Guilting me and reminding me what a shitty person I am?

That's typical of them. They only think about how it affects them. They don't want to put any effort to try to understand what drove you to become suicidal. It doesn't matter how much you suffer, you just need to exist to stroke their egos and save their morals.

Exactly. This is why its hard to take so many pro lifers seriously. Few of them have experienced a fraction of what most of us here have been through in our lives. They cannot see how things can affect people to such a degree as to cause major psychological damage.

I usually try and explain it with the old argument that its a mental health disease. You wouldn't get mad at someone dieing from cancer or heart disease so why would you get mad at someone dieing from a mental health disease. Surprisingly quite a few people I've spoke too hadn't considered it like that and seemed to make them less guilt trippy. But yeah there's also lots of opinionated people who just don't get it unfortunately.

That's a really good idea, I've never really thought about it like that before but will certainly mention that when the topic comes up again.

I'm going to try this out next time someone tells me to cheer up and get over it. Hopefully they will understand that what I am going through is pretty rough.

When people say that about suicide, they are just looking at it from a selfish point of view because they simply don't understand, they haven't been there themselves. It is harmful for people to say that to those suicidal as it invalidates the suffering that they are going through. This life really is cruel and many problems are unfixable. I see suicide as being kind to ourselves, relieving us of future pain. It is irrational for people to be expected to stay alive for others.
