Has anyone seen this from the latest Exit Newsletter? It seems like it would be fast, painless and legal as it's also for divers. You probably know it uses nitrogen.

Yes I've mentioned it a few times on various threads recently. Exit was supposed to publish an update about it on June 30 but that's been pushed back to sometime this month or in August for reasons explained in the newsletter.

Is rebreather and debreather the same thing?

I searched all over PPeH (March 2019 version) but couldn't find a keyword 'rebreather' or 'debreather'. Where can i get more information about them?

I have found threads about them on SS, though:
- https://sanctioned-suicide.net/threads/homemade-debreather.18196/page-2

I see so hard that gadget passing through customs.
I think that finally will be illegal, guess

But it is a curious gadget.

Is rebreather and debreather the same thing?
No. A rebreather is used in SCUBA diving. It takes advantage of the fact that there is still a significant level of oxygen remaining in expired air. This oxygen is wasted in a conventional SCUBA system where all exhaled air is allowed to escape and bubble to the surface. In a rebreather system the carbon dioxide from exhalations is scrubbed of carbon dioxide, and a small amount of oxygen is fed into the system to keep the proportion of gases (primarily nitrogen and oxygen) at a safe breathable level. In essence, you are just breathing the same air in a closed system, with CO2 removed and O2 added.

The debreather operates on the same principle, except that there is no oxygen top up. CO2 is still scrubbed to prevent the hypercacnic reaction kicking in, and so the proportion of nitrogen in the breathed air just keeps climbing until death occurs.
