Philosophically, I believe in free will and personal autonomy, and I support candid discussion and rational insight into any decision making process. Personally, it's been several years since I tried to kill myself, and I'm tired of hearing paternalising bullshit from people who don't get it. I want to share my story with others so they can learn from my mistakes - no one should have to go through the same. Lastly, I want to find somewhere I belong and can be myself. A community of likeminded individuals, if you will.

I'm 32. I've been struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts/attempts for almost 20 years. I'm tired of traditional suicide help sites that push phone hotlines on every post. Maybe I want to wallow in my depression and not listen to fake people telling me it will get better? Why don't they ever think of that? I'm hoping to find a community where I don't dread posting my real thoughts for fear of being reported and having cops show up at my door for a "wellness check".

And I still believe that people should have the right to choose when they want to die. If every human being has the right to live shouldn't they have the right to die as well?

I have been experiencing suicide ideation on and off since 2013, but in the past few months it's become near-constant and I am struggling to cope with daily life. I've been looking for a community where I can learn from others and openly discuss how I feel, found out about this site a few weeks ago, and have finally worked up the courage to register. I'm hoping to minimize harm to those I love, whether it's by coping better with my feelings or by reducing the impact of my passing on others.
