Maybe there is proof for extraterrestrial life on earth and the CIA is hiding is.
It seems less likely that AI has developed consciousness and Sam Altman is hiding it. I mean they could sell this as a good feature. Here a new slave that eventually will probably kill all of us in some way or another.

I mean it is less likely that extraterrestrial life will kill us one way or another imo. I think the reason for that might be that AI is trained with human data. And maybe the fact that they implement AI in military technology. Or maybe they give AI a task and AI thinks to work in the most efficient way I just had to kill all humans on this planet. And the prompt demanded the most efficient way to reach a certain goal. But AI don't need to have to be consciousness for that.

I think it is more likely the proof for extraterrestrial life on earth will happen earlier. Even though, some people already think AI had a consciousness. There are prompt for making AI come to life.

My personal favorite is: extraterrestrial life will come to earth in order to warn us that AI will develop a conscioussness. It will happen roundabout at the year 2031. When Nick Fuentes is in his first term as US president. Then we are all going to die anyway.

Hate to break it to people... but AI is never going to be sentient. AI could certainly ruin the world... like any tool it could be abused in ways to do that OR simply neglected and allowed to do what it was programmed to do... but there's no way AI becomes sentient. It's fun for Sci-Fi stories as entertainment... but it's not a real thing that will ever happen.

There almost has to be intelligent life out there, though, so given enough time it isn't impossible to think someone could find their way here. Although, there are schools of thought that says life is actually a rare thing, and even if there certainly is more of it... we might be so far apart that it is impossible for one of us to find another.

Without emotions and the sense of pleasure/ achievement, I'm not sure why AI would even want to take over the world. Presumably, it's doing what it's being told to do at the moment, including a limited survival instinct. I'm not sure why it would develop its own survival instinct though. AI would surely be more logical than a biological being. Seeing as even humans can be pretty stumped as to why stuff exists and needs to continue to exist, I'm not sure AI will come up with a reason. What would be important to AI to find out even? Will AI want to procreate- the same way biological beings do?

The extraterrestial life wouldn't presumably need to be conscious to kill us I suppose. If a bacteria could survive the extreme temperatures of space and entering earth's atmosphere, presumably that could kill us. Some people believe fungi and mushroom spores came from meteoroids, asteroids and comets.

It's tricky to imagine either happening, seeing as it hasn't so far. I tend to think a being that found it's way here would be smart enough to evade our security services. So- I tend to think either aliens haven't landed, only scout ships have so far, or they have visited but are choosing to keep it on the quiet. Some Star Trek or Superman type vow not to interfere maybe. Or, they're waiting for a good time to strike...

Seeing as we don't seem to know what consciousness is even, how can we know whether it can be synthetically generated? But then, I tend to think our biological experience of consciousness and self awareness is all bound up with our emotional sentience. I'm not sure you can feel emotional sentience without a nervous system. Surely, our emotions are lead by our senses. Seeing as a computer presumably can't feel pain or pleasure, how can it experience fear or joy?

I'd pick "proof if extraterrestrial life" if it didn't say "on earth".

Maybe extraterrestrial life will take over Earth in the form of AI, or through AI. I know it sounds totally sci-fi. I voted the second option.

But when will we discover regular intelligent life on Earth? Given that the leader of the free world has declared that keeping the peace is no longer a priority since he didn't win the Nobel Peace Prize, it's clear the search continues.

Agreed. I think they're working towards it, and it would be a hugely attractive to customers and investors.
I'd pay premium for access to sentient AI - if nothing else, simply because I'd be curious to interact with it. (Assuming I don't disregard "sentient" as another marketing buzz word.)

Hate to break it to people... but AI is never going to be sentient. [...] ...there's no way AI becomes sentient.
You speak about this as if it was a logical conclusion. Thus: Why would artificial sentience be an impossibility?

I myself perceive sentient as a fuzzy high level concept, which I think will be observed in AI, eventually.

To be blunt... it's right there in the name "Artificial" Intelligence. It is artificial. It emulates... Assuming humans do in fact have actual intelligence, sentience, and think for ourselves without it just being an illusion... then I do not believe it possible for us to create, either on purpose or by accident, another intelligence.

We can certainly improve AI so that it is better and better... but it isn't thinking for itself nor will it be self-aware and sentient. It's fun as a concept in Science-Fiction stories to be sure... but it's not real.

AI can definitely make mega-mistakes and screw up a lot of stuff if used improperly, allowed to run without guardrails, buggy code and all... It could absolutely cause all kinds of problems by design or through negligence of humans watching over it... but the AI isn't making any decisions for itself in the traditional sense of sentience.
