• Hey Guest,

An update on the OFCOM situation: As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. OFCOM, the UK’s communications regulator, has singled out our community, demanding compliance with their Online Safety Act despite our minimal UK presence. This is a blatant overreach, and they have been sending letters pressuring us to comply with their censorship agenda.

Our platform is already blocked by many UK ISPs, yet they continue their attempts to stifle free speech. Standing up to this kind of regulatory overreach requires lots of resources to maintain our infrastructure and fight back against these unjust demands. If you value our community and want to support us during this time, we would greatly appreciate any and all donations.

I keep hearing people telling me the usual "it gets better" positivity bs, but now I'm actually curious, out of those who have made an attempt in the past, how many are those who "regretted" it? As in, after failing, wished they never tried to begin with or similar.

I have 0 attempts myself because I don't wanna try something that will likely end me up mangled for life, but I talked to some people outside of here who said to have have tried in the past and sometimes they tried to "lecture" me. I think that after having waited 6 years or something for something the chances I'll regret it are low, I wouldn't have wished for something so long if I didn't want it, after all.

If anyone wants to share a more detailed view/take or elaborate more on the answer feel free to post below. ❤️

I'm not sure if mine count as attempts because I backed out in the middle of them - they didn't fail or anything like that. Both were shoddy partial hangings with a belt.

I think a lot of claims about people regretting suicide attempts might have to do with them coming from suicide prevention groups.

"This percent of people regret their attempts!" is something a lot of them bring up.

A suicidal person isn't going to jump at the chance to participate in some pro-prevention org's poll. I wouldn't. Plus, you can't get a good idea of how people feel about attempting suicide when there's no way to poll all the folks whose attempts succeeded. Also, there's a similar issue of attempting once vastly increases your chances of dying from suicide later.

Like you said, it seems to be little more than toxic positivity bs.

Ye, ofc the % of who can even vote on this poll naturally disregards who succeeded/who failed and ended up stuck in a hospital forever; it was just a thought I got at like midnight (Best times to think about anything)

Anyways, now I'm curious about another question, related to what you mentioned. By "suicide prevention groups" and stuff, does that mean making sure people don't die for the sake of it/to reach some quotas or would they care about actually helping one fix their life (if even possible)?

I know this forum is heavily biased, but I legit started laughing when I saw the poll results, as you often hear about how often people regret it, and there's us..

I might've misspoke. Statistically speaking, lots of folks regret their attempts, but these stats come from prevention groups. I was trying to say that you can't collect accurate data on suicide regret when your entire organization is dedicated to making sure people don't hurt themselves. The comment about successes was to explain why I think this sort of data is probably unreliable.

To be clear, I wasn't talking about your poll. I was talking about polls conducted by prevention orgs that are made to prove how often people regret suicide.

I think prevention orgs don't have any plans beyond making sure you're alive. It's probably why a lot of them dislike people who support the right to die.

I wouldn't say that I regret any of my attempts, but then again, I lucked out a bit. As a result of my own extreme levels of incompetency, it has meant that all of my attempts have failed so badly that I didn't end up getting far enough to cause any real damage to my body.
