I'd like to get a thread started about photos of our living environments, either our little rooms which we never leave, our mansions we call home (not me), our streets, and our gardens, villages, and cities.

It would be nice to see what you call "home". Right now I am not homeless (staying with a friend) but deep down I am homeless.

Also I know many of you are depressed as I am so your environments might not be as spiffy as usual. Does anyone want to being or shall I?

Bad idea for privacy reasons. I expect people will say "I don't care I am going to ctb anyway" but it can even derail THAT. I understand the desire...but private info and photos are best shared in private if at all.

But if it's a photo that isn't online, could someone possibly trace it? There's another thread on here somewhere where people posted pics of their pets

Interesting idea, but people should keep in mind that when a device takes a photo, it can embed information in the file, like GPS info, device ID, etc.

There are ways to remove all that from the file before you upload it. I recommend doing so.

Yes as Tom said metadata, if not removed, can give things away. Also details can be tracked down by things in the photo, piece of mail in the corner on a table, landmarks...all sorts of things. This site is the last place online I'd post anything from my actual life. I think the pets and member photo threads are very dangerous for the same reasons. It's not just some random dog opr cat on a black background...its YOUR dog or cat in YOUR space and someone can recognize it or correlate it. A lot of people don't care at all about privacy and act like its ridiculous to worry...but it only takes once to learn an ugly lesson. Remember its not all friendly folks here..there are activists trying to interfere...trolls...psychopaths...law encforcement...and generally unstable people as well.

Personally I would "take my chances" but to each their own.

The problem is you don't truly understand the consequences. I;ve seen it over and over where people dismiss, laugh off, won't apply risk analysis, and learn lessons the hard way. Once its posted you cannot erase it if you change your mind. Nothing good can come from it except a momentary social media like thrill of being noticed or peering in,, and a LOT of bad can happen. But as you said...your choice. Just friendly advice.

I am well aware of the risks of posting anything online. For goodness sakes any of us could be doxxed at any time.

The chance of someone on here using the photo of my living room to torment me irl is infinitely small.

I apologise if you've felt like I ruined your thread or are somehow trying to "win" on the internet. I have seen a lack of privacy create huge problems for people, who didn't think it was a real risk either, and it's genuine concern. As you said people are free to do what they like...I just don't want anyone getting hurt.

Its a cool idea but I agree with oops. Wish we could be more open here and share whatever but it might not be a good thing.

It just sucks that there are so many unethical, criminal humans out there, always looking for a victim.

I really liked what you tried to do here. Unfortunately people who talk openly about suicide are in dangerous waters in some places if found out. It's a shame because it's such an isolating feeling.
