at least they didn't threaten to call the authorities on you. (unless you lied and pretended they managed to get to you)

Phoned the Samaritans today didn't think much of it asked how you would you go about voluntary admitting yourself to hospital and apart from an awful aww voice (sympathetic as hell) they weren't much help see your gp or do a search on the internet !!! Won't be phoning them again.

The way they manage to delude themselves into thinking that they're saving people is kinda amazing.

I wouldn't be surprised if suicidal ideation isn't considered grounds for tracking the SIM.

If you phone the police their phone system unwitholds your witheld number be it mobile or landline. The facility to do that has been around at least 10 years I know of.
Whether people like the samaritans use it I don't know but I'd not risk it. I always assume the worst and hope for the best.
Use a public phonebox and keep the call short is as safe as you can make it .
Anybody on this site really is already way past the point where they can offer advice that you've not heard before.
The only good thing about the samaritans is that they made it a freecall number a few years ago.

Please remember that they are volunteers not experts. I am sorry you didn't have a good experience with them but their hearts are in the right place and they are trying to help by providing a friend you can talk to at any time.

Tracking via IMEI would need a warrant, wouldn't it?

I don't know. They used to need a warrant to record voice calls. The phone companies and police have dedicated departments these days that work with eachother all day every day. They follow criminals, suspects, read their texts, see who's in their contacts list, who they've rang, who rang them, where they are, where they've been etc
Everytime you make a call or text your imei and sim data gets sent and stored, actually just having a connection to a mast does that too. Take out the sim and put in a new one they'll still know it's you using your same phone as the imei gives it away.
I'm not saying to overworry but it's always worth remembering your phone can betray you.

They're nicer than the NSPH. Don't call the cops on you but super scripted. I could probably get farther in a conversation with myself.

To be fair they are non directive in the UK and will only call the authorities if directed.

I honestly have no idea what the legislation on this is. Yes, they'll be able to track you pretty much instantly, but does the law allow for the police to contact a phone company to find data on a call if told that the person who called might be suicidal, if the suicidal person doesn't volunteer any information?

There would need to be some evidence so if the suicidal person hasn't made any threats to anyone of their intent then they should be ok.

I did not call the Samaritans since a) I live in the US and b) I do not have enough privacy to make a phone call to a US-based suicide hotline. However, last month I emailed the Samaritans once a day for almost two weeks. Their replies were very helpful, and they did not care that I live outside the UK.
