my buddy had his first inhaler puff just now. he puts up a huge fight for being held still and especially so for anything going near his mouth. when I got him he was 6 years old from a lady who has passed away from smoking basically, cancer brought on by. the fridge was yellow and you could see where the pictures used to be from the white(ish) rectangles on the yellow walls. so that's likely why he has asthma now.

he had bad teeth when I got him, bright red gums. couple teeth had to be pulled. there was an abscess under a molar that connected a hole from his mouth to his sinuses. my guess from what I had seen was a poor diet.

there was a flea infestation thanks to an object from my parents that an infected flea had given him worms. opening the pills and sprinkling it on the food meant he'd actually take the medicine so that worked. was 3 rounds of treatment till the worms cleared.

after that he had chronic respiratory infections about every 3 months so it was round after round of antibiotics. after a couple years it cleared up and now it's asthma.

he also had an enlarged heart and chronic kidney disease they caught early. it's been 2 years.

my other cat went and got her eyeball punctured so she's bind in it. doesn't seem to matter to her much unless she has someone spook her on her blind side.

had a chinchilla pass away a little over a year ago from a rare infection in the uterus. vet said it was pyometra. it's barely seen in non-breeding chinchillas so it wasn't caught in time. trying to see if the other two would room together resulted in a bite wound.

the eyeball, the chinchillas, the asthma, the food for the kidney disease. the last year has been expensive.

I love them to death and would do anything for them, but sometimes it's hard to find the money.

anyone else have stories?

i dont have any stories like that but i do have 2 cats. they like to pick on each other (specifically flora likes to pick on june) and i came home from work one day to them both having a cut on their ear. i assumed that got at it again. its still visible because the ear was split out to the tip but for the most part it healed nicely with no infections. i felt horrible and i cried and hugged them.

poor babies. hopefully they calm down with their fighting. have you tried that plug spray stuff that's supposed to calm cats? I haven't heard if it's actually worked, but can't hurt to try.

I don't think we can have links? but look up cat calming spray on chewy.

i thought it was just links to suicide products or personal info like facebook that we couldnt have. i dont see why there would be a problem with something like that. they have calmed down though and dont do it nearly as much. i even catch them cleaning each other or sleeping together now and again lol

Awe those poor sweethearts. I'm so sorry. Yes I had a very similar situation with my dog. He is a rescue and was lively and happy and was only 1 year old when I got him. ...what I didn't do was check his teeth. I found out he had a oronasal fistula (basically hole in upper gum into nasal cavity. 2 teeth impacted in his nasal cavity and 2 other broken teeth with dead roots. All had to be pulled and repaired.

The vet who performed his surgery said he must have had severe mouth trauma from previous abuse (rescue group found him and few other dogs emaciated in a back yard). I love my dog so much but damn the surgery was expensive... almost 3 thousand dollars...and I'm broke so I received assistance and used my corona virus government stimulus check towards it.

I'm so frustrated. the family I live with want to help me give the cat the inhaler, but everything they're doing is only going to make it more difficult the next time.

parents insist he should be held down, which is only going to tell him this is bad. he's really good at struggling and burritoing him is too much effort for 0 reward. he slips out to matter what you do. the grandma wanted to hold him down too, but the tiniest scratch would tear open her thin skin which just resulted in her hovering, which is also going to send the wrong message to the cat I'm trying my hardest to calm down so I can give him the the stuff.

any arguing from my end goes in one ear and out the other. I learned at a young age that no matter what I say I'm wrong and not going to be listened to so while I have tried to convince I want to do this on his terms, they keep making everything awful.

I know I have to get it so he can associate it without trauma, but I might have lost all the months of effort I've been working towards waiting for the inhaler to come in the mail in the day and a half I've had it.

I hope there's coming back from this.

even the vet said he's the most stubborn cat she's met.

So sorry. Yes vets cost so much. It can be drepressing. Illnesses break my heart.;-;:mmm::ehh:

My first kitty had a stroke, went blind and had kidney failure. My mom rescued her as a stray. She was walking around my grandma's old neighbourhood.

My dog had heart failure. My dad bought him from a breeder. I was like 8 at the time and was clueless about animal shelters. My dad wouldn't have listened to me anyway though. He was terrified of people and underweight. He was an older dog.

Then i had a kitty with stomach cancer. Again my mom found him at my grandma's neighbourhood when he was around 1 year old.

My last kitty b4 the kitty i have now had a tumour on her liver and hyperthyroidism. It was terrible giving her pills. My mom was way better at it. She knew how get the pill down her throat fast and then close her mouth I got her from my mom's ex bf . His brother has a farm and they don't get their cats fixed. :meh:

They were all elderly when they had to be put down. I miss them so much. It hurts my heart.;-;

Matt my cat now was found starving and sitting on my a/c. He had some teeth that had to be pulled since they were rotting away.

He has a sensitive stomach which causes bowels issues so he has to eat cat food without by products, grains, preservatives.,etc He still gets issues but way less since i switched his food to higher quality stuff. He is elderly now. I really hope he lives long.
