how likely is it to experience severe anxiety when taking them??

I want to try them, but I'm scared because I'm a very anxious person and prone to panic attacks and I really don't want to feel terrified when taking them

Even people who have done psychedelics repeatedly and have experience can experience anxiety and panic attacks on those drugs.

If still do try psychedelics while having that risk, you absolutely need to have a trip-sitter, an experienced tripper physically there with you the whole time to keep you safe, calm you down if things go wrong, etc.

If you go in while in a bad headspace, then very likely. I've never had issues with anxiety while using them personally, but I have had extreme mood swings before, along with being stuck in a negative thought loop and confusion, due to being in a bad headspace. I would recommend getting someone to act as a trip sitter, along with doing them in a space that is calm, familiar, and where you feel safe in to mitigate this. I'd also recommend having some music on hand to listen to. I find that music helps a lot to ensure that the trip stays on track and makes coping with a bad trip a lot easier. What psychs do you plan on tripping on, if you don't mind me asking?

thank you <3 I'm not sure which ones - is there any psychedelic which is considered less likely to cause anxiety than others?

Idk, tbh. Everyone's experience with psychedelics are different.

I have the same propensity. I tried LSD tabs and sure enough, it gave me anxiety. Both times. Same with cannabis oil. It always gave me paranoid thinking. Never pleasant experiences.

ive done LSD (acid) many times and shrooms a handful of times maybe even less. your headspace controls the trip. if you go in happy and with good intentions and with safe people it should be okay :) but im not going to lie to you and say its not possible to get anxious because i have plenty of times on psychs and it is unpleasant. but i will say with positive reinforcement and distractions i go right back to happy :) good luck and stay safe ♡

I have used psychedelics a lot in my life. I also have issues with anxiety. I'll say that it's is a bit of a gamble. Everyone reacts differently. Things I've considered to be helpful are:
- consideration of set and setting (both your physical environment and your mental state going in). Spending some time to intentionally set these up helps a lot.
- Having a someone you trust join you. Sometimes people like to have a sober caretaker. If they are also joining in the trip, it may be helpful to discuss it beforehand to express concerns and possibly things you may like to do on the trip.
- Start with a lower dose. You can add more later, if you're inclined, but you can't take it away.

I'd also like to recommend DMT, it's a strong but short acting psychedelic. The whole trip is over in around 15 min

@wildflowers1996 now that I think about it, it may not be a good idea to specifically use psychedelics to treat your mental health issues unless you are doing so in a controlled setting. While research has shown that they can be good for treating mental illness, these experiments generally take place in a controlled setting with professionals around. Doing psychs on your own to treat mental illness is risky and can even come with the risk of developing trauma if something goes wrong and your trip takes a turn for the worse. Along with that, do you or any of your family have a history of dealing with psychosis? Psychedelics also come with the risk of leading to the onset of certain psychiatric disorders (particularly schizophrenia and bipolar I). It's generally not recommended to take them if you are predisposed to developing psychosis, especially as research is still being done on the potential link between them.
Same with cannabis oil.
I don't think cannabis also isn't generally considered a psychedelic unless if taken in large amounts. Most research talking about psychedelics in reference to treating anxiety seem to mainly focus on psychs like LSD and Molly, not cannabis.

It is possible that could happen but it entirely depends on your mindset when you take it. I would recommend getting into meditating before you trip. Start with a small dose and see how you feel from there. I have a lot of anxiety but I've never experienced much anxiety during trips except on the come up. Once it starts hitting the anxiety usually fades away. If you have anyone that you trust I would recommend having them around as a trip sitter if you can.

only things i would have to say is 1. a trip sitter that you trust 100% in every aspect. recommended if theyre sober
2. a nice environment where you're tripping in 3. intention for why you're tripping (having fun, want a spiritual experience, etc)
4. gradual dosage increases. so go from the smallest dose to your desired dose so that you can have a smooth trip transition

I took Psilocybin more than 6 months ago when I was on the verge of ctbing. My idea was "well, i always wanted to try psychedelics, so why not do it now before i go?". This is an example of HORRIBLE setting, especially for first-timer. It was an awful bad trip. U need to have somebody near you if it's your first time. I gotta add tho, that after having a bad trip, I was stuck with an idea that it's what i am gonna be experiencing when I die, so I got motivated to try to live again lol

hey there, i've done way too many psychedelics in my life and here's my experience doing them primarily by myself as a depressed person:

even nowadays i'll experience some sort of anxiety spike while on psychs but in my experience, researching and studying a trip report or the effects on whatever psychedelic you do can help you ground yourself and relax while on it. i find the experience alot less worrisome when you do alot of research (while sober ofc) and as someone who does psychs alone 95% of the time it's helped me greatly when it comes to controlling yourself.

of course if you can get one, always have a trusted person to be a trip sitter for you in case you need anything. if you can't find one i would say prepare things you'll need beforehand and keep them in arms reach (water, snacks, activities, etc).. something i find that helps me is timing the trip on a watch, i'm not sure if it affects your perception or whatever but for me being able to check into the real world and see how long i've been tripping helps remind me that: i'm on drugs and that after a certain amount of time IT DOES END and doing this has made my trips feel alot more under control

other than that i would say to remind yourself to let go and not fight the experience in order to have a comfortable time. the trip does come to an end even if you're having a bad one fortunately so just hold on tight and drink water if you're feeling off. i recommend listening to calming or fun music to help yourself along

this is all just my experience though, bottom line is do your research and remember that you're on drugs. i feel like people can freak out when they forget that they just took drugs. i try to see it as a quick vacation to another planet. i tripped for the first time at night in my bedroom alone when i was 17, i survived and enjoyed it! but only you know yourself so if you feel fearful of doing them, i think it's best to not do them until you feel ready.

source: people ask me to tripsit them, this is what i tell them. i've done shrooms, acid, molly, 2cb. my favorite is lsd and i've been doing psychs for 5+ years, i hope this helps!

set and setting are the most important things.

set as in mindset -- going into it, are you anxious, is there something on your mind, things you haven't processed or resolved, have you repressed anything. be ready to address things that have to be addressed. know someone who did shrooms and ended the trip with a new gender identity so there's that, ha.

setting as in your surroundings -- who you're with, where you are, do you feel safe, comfortable. seconding the suggestions for a tripsitter. otherwise, if you're comfortable experimenting with drugs and you've been uncomfortably high before, just keep in mind the feeling is temporary, etc.

don't look in mirrors, try to be in nature, it really helps with feeling more connected to the earth around you.

also important to note, look up interactions if you're already taking medication. i'm a dumbass who took shrooms and molly while i was on SSRIs cause my girlfriend just gave them to me and then when she was tripping balls hours later i googled it and was like oh wait these wont work on me i'm just hot and sweaty for no reason now great
