But really, existing and wanting to continue to exist is the real anomaly. The universe is around 13.8 billion years old and none of us existed for the vast majority of that time. Now each of us exist for around a century or less, with very few of us exceeding one century of life and none living far beyond that. To say that our existence is a drop in the bucket is to overestimate. We're not even a drop of a drop, not even one atom in the bucket of existence even if we live as long as the longest living human beings in recorded history have lived.

Still, non-existence is a strange thing for our existent minds to think of. Isn't it silly?

Existence can be only estimated by our consciousness. If you have a blackout or passed out, or fell asleep, technically existence is not even present. So it is not necessary to go too far to realize that existence is just a matter of our perception.

I mean I agree with you but our mind did not exist before. All the mind knows is the current consciousness and its hard for the mind to accept that it will one day not exist so its fighting a losing battle til the end regardless of the suffering (SI).

One day NONE of us will exist, first we will be a memory, then a distant memory, then we become nothing,
Some of us just want to end our existence sooner then nature may intend, this may not suit pro lifers and society's requirements of what they deem acceptable, but tough shit i say!

Evolutionary instinct. Self-preservation. Survival. Although frustrating to people like us, it makes sense. It takes a certain level of insight to be able to understand the want and need to no longer exist, and not many people ever get to that point of piercing awareness. The ability to comprehend this matter of perception usually comes from reflection during the darkest periods of complete hopelessness and despondency, which the majority never reach.

That's precisely why I can't understand why we don't enjoy the time we have here. I mean as a species. We need a serious wake up call. So concerned with a load of shit that doesn't actually matter

I don't think it's an anomaly for people, they accept the fact that someday everyone dies (except if science allows to find out how to get eternal life ...). The anomly would probably be to commit suicide. People first think that you have a mental disorder, which might be true. They consider life is sacred and if someone wants to die, then this person should have some really good reason to do so.

There are ethical, religious, political, philosohical, psychological,... aspects behind it.

As you said, if we look at the universe, a human life is a drop in the bucket to overestimate, but it won't convince people about suicide.
