I don't mean to shame anyone, but I'm
genuinely confused as to why anyone would just leave the forum on their phone, or at least not clear their history, knowing they're going to die.

It's highly likely that their phone will be investigated and the site will be found and blamed, and it feels a little selfish because the more this happens, the more they are going to crack down and blame us for everything.

Why don't they just reset their phones to factory settings? Or delete their history? I've been trying to excuses for them whenever I see articles covering it, but none of it makes sense to me.

True... Finally escaping a pit, I guess you won't be too concerned with hiding the rope that saved you. I just feel a little paranoid cos the UK has really been putting a lot of restrictions on the site

There's more restrictions to come too. Before long, it'll only be possible to access this site through a VPN.

I believe a lot of people who are about to die don't care about that, soon enough they won't be able to experience anything anyway, nothing matters to them anymore other than succeeding in their plans.

Doesn't always mean they will look through it though so we should do as much to hide it in case they don't think of looking for clues on our phone especially if the method is one people would naturally find out like jumping as if someone jumped off a building you wouldn't think someone on the internet told them how to do it

I think most people don't care about "data security" and if you are at such a low point to consider and to commit suicide you won't care much about your mobile phone / laptop anymore as deleting data securely isn't done by just deleting a browser history. It also highly depends on the country you're living in how deep and investigation goes when it is a clear suicide.

In any case it's better to do the preparations for data deletion as early as possible.

Rofl yeah I'm sure a suicidal person really gives much of a shit about their browsing history if they're going to kill themselves anyway.

If you're willing to inflict pain on others by killing yourself I doubt you care about an internet forum.

This forum is already as infamous as it's gonna get.

Just get people to use encrypted android devices. iPhones can be unlocked by feds if they contact Apple.

Or at minimum switch your phone off with erase after 10 attempts activated.

Can only turn phone on with pin/passcode touch/face ID obv only works to wake a phone that already turned on.

Above is iPhone but I assume Android does similar.

Not the case at all (for either case), and hasn't been for nearly a decade.

Both google and apple will give authorities full access to cloud data if subpoenaed, but if advanced data protection is enabled then the device itself is still inaccessible.

Advanced data protection as of last year also has the option to be zero knowledge encrypted (ie apple don't even have the key to unlock the cloud data - the key is stored locally to the user). Note, that's not the default setting, but it's easy enough to enable. If there's also no recovery method / key set on the account, feds or whomever may as well throw the device in the trash.

Android devices - generally were easier to access because OS updates are not applied as rigorously by users or providers. There are often backdoors available from third party / sideloaded apps also. Lost count of the amount of times could access an android device in under 30 mins.

Source - used to work on them. Too easy usually - people start off being paranoid / careful, but start taking daft shortcuts after a while.

Authorities won't ever try a passcode do unlock a phone itself - they clone the device and then work on the cloned image (but yes, certainly doesn't hurt to enable it anyway!)

This reminds me of the people who say that if they'll die they want someone to delete their browser history because it's embarrassing or something. Never understood that. They're dead. So why care about it? They won't be around to see people's reactions anyways.

I have some skeletons in my closet, so I can kind of get their perspective. Over the years, I've curated an identity for myself as a "good person", and I don't want that image of me to be tarnished even if I'm dead. Ultimately, I know it doesn't really change anything, but what they don't know won't hurt them. l'd rather they go on thinking I'm this kind hearted person, than know I have my own issues they'll find disgusting.
But hey, I'm also the guy who was too scared to jump off a bridge because I thought it was embarrassing to be stared at, so I don't know how seriously you should take my words...

Just not possible in any means, sure they keep your network packets, but most of them are encrypted and it's almost impossible to decrypt without a quantum computer or something. Most of your web browsing packets (https) are encrypted too, including this site of course. However your browser might still keep your history in their cloud for synchronization or it just send them back to their server without your knowing.

they recorded your domain name server requests that's how they know what websites you've been visiting they don't recorded the packets it's just the list of web domains and not much else

That's right, i forgot about the dns, and the majority of people won't use dns over tls or similar stuff. That can be done. But in where i live, the ISPs are all controlled by the government and from what i've heard they record a lot of packets not just dns.

I use a VPN and uh I will reformat the storage of my phone (not a factory reset) and reflash the default ROM several times maybe for like 5-6 times (using a custom ROM currently) and yeah I also need to get rid of the SD card where I keep gigabytes of gore videos with suicide maybe I can flush it down at a public restroom. I guess this will make it sorta impossible to find things about the site since I bet they won't even do something else than unlocking the phone and checking some files, they won't dive deeper I am sure.

I found this site because of 'bad publicity' - a BBC article. I read it, decided to do my own research, and discovered that the article was incredibly biased and lied about what SaSu is. So even though the coverage is negative, it can lead people who need this site to join. It just relies on people not taking what the media says at face value. A few minutes on the forums should demonstrate very quickly that this site is about information and support, and not encouragement (or whatever else the media likes to portray it as). So while I don't like what is being said about this site in the media, even bad publicity spreads the word. If the site isn't mentioned at all, how are people supposed to find it?

But I understand that it's not ideal and there have been greater restrictions placed on the site due to its exposure. It's hard to find a balance. Ideally, an article that accurately portrays the purpose of this site should be published, but that's never going to happen due to the anti-suicide stance of the media and most governments.

Well that isn't totally fair. There is such a thing as rational suicide when someone is completely in his or her right mind. Even Mayo acknowledges that. As for why ppl don't delete first, there are seemingly a lot of attempts before they succeed and they probably don't believe they will succeed and don't want to have to start over on SS, not to mention the emotional support they need during the act. JMO.

I mean, I'm not so sure that this would be the first thing that came to mind moments before someone took their life. I think they would be far more concerned about other things, or perhaps nothing at all. Anyway, as others have stated, your browsing history is never private no matter what you think. It can and will easily be traced if you were using this website quite religiously before the end.

A childhood best friend of mine used this site frequently and was actually in the IT field. She did not even bother trying to hide anything because she was just so done; I'm not sure anything ever came from it though. SaSu was definitely never blamed and to this day I may be her only friend who knows about the existence of the site.

Some people will diligently erase every trace of their life before going out, and others may leave it based on impulse, lack of care for what happens when they are gone, or simply just hoping someone could finally see how much they were hurting.

We all have our reasons and SaSu is never going to get a positive spotlight in the news. Hate to break it to ya, but regardless of any more suicides, this website is always going to be under fire.

Free publicity for the site 😁, every attempt to shame it or close it down will fail and grows its popularity.
It's really true, at first I found this site with the taran(something) video. Because I was curious. But for a long time I was suicidal and couldn't find any way to end my life. I'm really happy to have found this forum, I've made new friends and I can finally catch de bus in peace. And I'm genuinely happy about it. Thanks everyone! (I won't delete my account before CTBing but I'll remove every link to this site, so clearing my History, a factory reset and more. Y'all helped me too much, I can't let you down by letting media talking badly about this site)
