Hi, I just wanted to put out a few thoughts that have come to me since joining this site earlier this week. Mainly thoughts on what I've seen. And I'm not going to name names or anything like that as I don't wish to cause drama.
I have noticed on quite a few threads a creeping paranoia amongst some people, I understand where it comes from, yet I see it being damaging not only to contributers but also to the whole ethos and purpose of the forum.
Just a suggestion, if anyone has feelings that people are not here for the right reasons, maybe just don't comment on their posts or threads.
It can be very difficult to open up here and if you are challenged or accused of being covert, it could cause that person some real damage.
Remember we are all damaged here, that's why we are here. Let's be supportive to each other and not add to others pain.
This is just my opinion, feel free to voice yours.

The paranoia is understandable. I find it hard to believe that the site isn't infiltrated by fake accounts though, in an effort to entrap. If I wanted to discredit the place and shut it down, it's what I'd do. Everyone needs to be vigilant. However, I still find I have to comment on some posts, even if my spidersense is tingling. There is no way of telling if a poster is genuine and I hate the idea of someone in distress, desperate and reaching out for support going without a response because of fear. If that was me, it'd crush me.
But people can read my responses and my attitude and behaviour will remain the same - I'm happy to share my story in sympathy and happy to offer whatever support I can. If I'm being misled then *shrugs* all I've done is offer sympathy, which is genuine. If they are fake posters, then they can judge that for itself.
I can also however, fully understand people not replying when they feel suspicion. I suspect a fake will always reveal themselves sooner or later. Its happened before on here and will happen again.

Yeah I get what you're saying.
All I ever do on here is write about my own stuff or offer support and kindness to other people who post.
The site contains enough info and guides that would probably be enough for people who don't understand try to shut it down.
And while I understand where the paranoia comes from, as you said "I hate the idea of someone in distress, desperate and reaching out for support going without a response because of fear. If that was me, it'd crush me." That's my worry that someone in need becomes overlooked or made to feel unwelcome.
As said just my opinion, just thought maybe it should be said in order to open a dialogue and thread where this issue can be discussed outwith the other more important threads.

Excellent post! There is no need to feel paranoid, and a very simple solution. If I one does not feel safe, don't post. Problem solved.

Hello everyone. I am Jean. I am an impulsive CTBer. Just coming out of a very bad depression which increased SI.

I live here. This is my home. @Sensei and the others tell me I am not permitted to leave. Ask me anything.

Pro-lifers feel free to PM me.

I don't care who knows about me. If one wants to lurk and feels nervous, don't post. We still welcome all!

P.S. @Suicide_vampire has the best name and avatar.

PPS. My closing statement

I don't think anyone could take this site down....isn't that a clear violation of freedom of speech? Or is the whole 'CTB' thing reason enough. I have never once seen anyone here encourage another to Ctb. Quite the opposite actually, it's a support group.

I'm autistic, you all confuse me with your discussions about people being covert pro lifers or whatever. It has never and would never occur to me that people would actually do that. I just take everyone at face value and at their word, assume everyone is honest and wholesome.

My innocent and naive ways are amusing lol, you normal people are so much more socially sophisticated than I am haha.

I'm so dense and trusting I probably get lied to and manipulated all the time irl without even being aware of it.

The paranoia seems really pointless to me. Everyone is so worked up about nothing.

With the scrutiny to this site that has been generated by several high profile bridge crossings (seriously people, delete browser history, it's not that hard), and the resulting media shit storms, and legislative efforts , I think caution isn't a terrible idea. You never know who you're replying to. If SS has been a help, a home or a refuge to you in your darkest times, I imagine you would want it to be a place others in the future could also have. With so few places to speak about topics without being arrested or jumped on by the "it gets better" brigades, I would think protecting SS would be a good thing.

Doing ones own research is the easiest way to deal with paranoia issues.
