I have great difficulty opening up to people. It's partly because I'm very sensitive to invalidation. There's an online crisis chat called imalive that I use whenever I need to be validated.

I find it sad that I get validation only from volunteers who are trained to validate. I sometimes think that I truly don't fit in this world when the only people who validate me are those who trained do so.

At the same time, I'm really glad they're there. I discovered the imalive chat relatively recently and life was truly unbearable before it.

I still think of suicide as the ideal way to go if I have no other choice. But since I'm still alive I'm really glad I have some way of being validated.

Hey Meowkin,

I'm glad to hear that you feel validated and get help from the crisis chatline. It is not a common sentiment here so that is refreshing!

I also called the suicide hotlines when I was at my worst point, and though they didn't help me with my situation, I'd say they helped me calm down before I made an impulsive suicide attempt.

Don't feel bad for getting validation from the trained volunteers -- suicide and mental health is a very misunderstood topic, and you're better off getting help from a trained person than someone who has no understanding or experience with such things. In saying that, many people do still feel invalidated by crisis hotlines and mental health professionals, so I am really glad that you found a way of feeling validated.

Of course, on top of that I hope you find some validation from this community as well. It sounds like you have some hope, so I hope things will improve for you and that you won't feel that suicide is your only option.

All the best!

You can find validation here. There are a lot of unbelievably good people here who want to help.
