  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at admin@sanctioned-suicide.net.

I found this chart in an article about women and suicide. The study has a sample of 155 people who were detained due to suicide attempt(s) or self-harm.

What I find surprising is the category 6-19. 6-19 is for people who detained/locked up 6-19 times. If someone is locked up 6-19 times, what kind of resources did the person receive in the previous 5-18 times? doesn't the person get tired and fed up of being locked up that many times? being suicidal is so tiring without all the drama. I would lose my mind if I attempt more than 2 times and survive.

What do you think about the chart?

I predict that in the future the ratio of successful suicide attempts will equalize between men and women. Just my 2 cents

yeah, life is getting harder for women. I also think the data underestimate women's suicide by OD. OD death is not always included in suicide data.

Not sure if its anecdotal or not, but IIRC men tend to choose more violent methods, ie guns, which make their attempts more likely to succeed. I'm only speculating, but I imagine if someone has multiple failed attempts, they are more likely to be detained. I also feel like women are also more likely to seek help, while men still retain stigmas about mental health.

I saw some statistics about more women choosing OD than men, so they fail to CTB more often.

Without adequate research, many people still think OD or cutting wrists is very lethal due to unrealistic suicide depictions in media. So this is possibly partly the reason for the imbalance between men and women.

I still find it bizarre that ctb is a punishable crime in the US and other countries. In the UK it was decriminalised in 1961.

It's such a callous thing to punish people who are already desperate and suffering.
