It's July 4th season. Your neighbors might think it's just fireworks if they hear your gunshot.

Even if they call the police, the police might think it's fireworks once they bring their cars over. (And, no, investigating illegal fireworks use is not a priority for police departments.)

Even with shotguns, it's better if you take a long time to be discovered. That way, you can have more time to die if you miss the brainstem.

I'm thinking about ctb soon since it'd be fairly convenient for this reason, but I've been wanting to do it in the winter (it's my favourite time of the year)
I have acess to a hand gun so that's a plus

This is actually good timing! @Jessica5 Yes, I have thought about this too, however, I am not in the place of wanting to CTB or waiting for the bus stop at this moment. Another such good timing would be around New Year's Eve, almost to New Year's Day (but not quite NYD) since there are also people setting off firecrackers and fireworks (more so when actual New Years has come, especially right on the second of January 1st, 12:00:00 am/0:00:00 (if using 24 hour notation).) Also, in both situations, doing it at night means you have the veil of darkness helping you, thus making it harder for people to see what you are doing (especially if you are in a secluded area).

Not really necessary as only one shotgun is needed. Just make you you hit the brainstem and it is preferred to put it through your mouth than your head (as with long guns) because it will be hard to control the length of the barrel when up against your head versus in the mouth. Just aim downwards and as further back as possible while tilting your head down (even if you don't directly hit the brainstem, you will do enough damage that the shockwave and pressure from the gunshot will be more than sufficient to cause death). Make sure you use 00 buckshot for even more assurance.
