Help No offense, but am i the only one who doesn't understand how some people can still believe in a 'God' ?

It always baffles me to see someone genuinely believing in a 'God' who would be watching over us ?

I really do not mean to offend anyone but i would like to understand how can people still believe in this kind of stuff in big 2026 given how absurd life has always been, and how there is no sense of morality or goodness in the universe ?

Some of my family members are religious and i feel like they are a different species when i hear them talking about their religious beliefs.

My christian friend told me that he feels that he has felt God's presence, and that despite there being no way to prove anything he still believes in God, Jesus, and the holy spirit because that's what faith is.

Most of them are born into it. It gives them a purpose to live for and hope for when they die that they might go to this place that is better than here. It's all fake, but it doesn't matter. You can argue for 1 year straight with them and they'll still deny it.

For me, the existence of hell is a worst case scenario so religion has never appeared to me as wishful thinking. It's more this insidious voice haunting me telling me maybe the whole world's deluded, maybe demons trick them, maybe you need to listen to your heart and believe despite everything. It's destroyed my mental health. Also it scares me from suicide.

Lately I've been binging the classic new atheist content from high school. It still makes a lot of sense. I thought I outgrew it because I became older and "deeper" but that was a delusion and at the end of the day theological talk is just bullshitting. I know it's a shortcoming to fall into it.

But religionists can go ahead and be smug about me, because it still haunts me in desperate moments. And I was an adult convert! My childhood churching was so mild, I don't know how much I can blame it. Maybe a lot for planting the seed.

Even if God exists I doubt there is any punishment for CTBing. How can I know? Even if I start seeing things I won't believe there is any punishment and I will likely think I am going crazy and CTB even sooner.

Even if God exists I doubt there is any punishment for CTBing. How can I know? Even if I start seeing things I won't believe there is any punishment and I will likely think I am going crazy and CTB even sooner.

This is true, most religion contrary to what they want you to believe often has exceptions for things like this despite it being a major sin.

In Islam I heard u repeat ur method that u killed yourself with forever in hell. In Christianity I just heard people saying God will send you to hell. It's really stupid to punish people who wanted to die by killing them in worse ways. It sounds so fucking weird.

I know it's hard to not have your perception of religious people tainted (I've been there myself) since they can be extremely hypocritical, but this is untrue. Muslims and Christians objectively don't have knowledge of Allah/God's judgment and anyone acting as if they do didn't read or pay attention.

Religion & politics shouldn't be discussed on here anyways. People always choose sides and cant control themselves and what they say. I personally dislike religion as whole, but do I dislike those who follow such religions? Absolutely not.

ill never understand it, its so cobfusibg. i think about religious psychosis and the abuse that goes on in there, some people can develop a good connection, giving them a sense of hope and guidance. but, what happens when u get religious psychosis? the parents/members/pastors that fearmong children, enabling a speific view and such.

Jesus Christ is my Lord & Savior. I believe what we are experiencing now is Satan's Little Season. We missed the 1000 years of peace, unfortunately.
The lack of morality & goodness is what made me start searching for answers. And for me, this is what makes sense.
It took me a long, long time to find my faith. Now, that I have, I feel like a rebel! I believe all kinds of crazy sh#%. I used to think the Bible was a fairy tale..now I'm all in, hook, line & sinker. I believe the Bible is an actual history book.
I still search everyday, the more I search, the more I believe in God.

You are referring to the paternalistic and anthropomorphized god of Christianity. Because a "theistic" belief is logically possible and coherent. It depends on which god we are portraying here. Personally, as a Panentheist, I believe in a self-aware universe that deliberates and has its own will.

this is so fucking scary, I think I had forgotten about this. I don't know if it's is in the Quran or Hadith but I remember being told exactly this as a kid. Even though I don't believe in Islam anymore some aspects of it will forever haunt me. I distinctly remember that me and my siblings used to talk about how we wished we killed ourselves before reaching puberty (because iirc children who die before puberty automatically go to heaven according to Islam)

Fear is a great tool to rule people. I lived under a dictatorship previously. Your tongue and your vocal cords get cut if you speak against the government. It worked like a charm. No one dared to speak a word. Im not saying religion itself is like this but they use similar tactics to keep followers following.
