Nitrogen or Argon and some tidbits

I've been sick for over 25 years with a chronic incurable disease. I can take care of myself but these last years I've been going downhill, had to stop driving and barely leave the house. I'm 68 so it's not like I haven't lived. No kids, no family.

I have the gauge from MaxDog Brewing but turns out the US place that used to deliver filled Nitrogen canisters now only ships Argon. Because I'm mostly housebound, it'd be hard for me to get out to a welding place and get a canister of Nitrogen vs. ordering Argon online and get it shipped filled. And acting dumb at a welding place.

Here's my problem or two. Is one better than the other? Argon over Nitrogen? I did read the post where the guy tested the argon. I don't have a lot of storage room and I have intentionally not bought the gas because my moods are all over and I don't want to do it before I'm ready but I worry the govt will stop the selling without some permit. I'm afraid if the gas is here I'll use it. But then having it will really give me a sense of relief. Exit bag done.

So I guess 1. is argon better than nitrogen? and anyone have ideas for someone with OCD to have the canister and not have it calling me name every day? Thanks.

I'm not doing anything yet. Just getting info and components. I have to reevaluate my health every few months. But it will be a relief.

Either nitrogen or argon or any other inert gas, it doesnt matter what flavor, they just displace the oxygen in the bag. The gas cylinders in the U.S. use the same CGA-580 fitting which the Brewdog regulator should have so you should be fine.

I know my regulator will work with a 20 cu ft. tank. The problem I had is the place max dog says no longer ships nitrogen. They do ship argon which was my first time learning it could be used. But I've never seen it talked about anywhere, even in australia where they came up with max dog. If argon works I'm good but my fear is that if I don't buy now I won't be able to when I want it, I don't have a time set but at least 6 months to a year. I even just read a prison is using Nitrogen. So I'm just trying to narrow down options, is one better than the other etc.

I'm not trying to give you a hard time, you wouldn't be here unless you're experiencing a lot of stress, but before asking your question you could have done just a few minutes of research and found the answer. Anyway....

For the purpose of the people on this forum (not for welding or any other technical usage) argon and nitrogen will do EXACTLY the same thing. It makes absolutely no difference. So if one is easier to obtain than the other, go with that one.

For the purpose of the people on this forum (not for welding or any other technical usage) argon and nitrogen will do EXACTLY the same thing. It makes absolutely no difference. So if one is easier to obtain than the other, go with that one.

I read your post several times and have it bookmarked and I did a lot of reading yesterday about argon. But reading about it is not the same as talking to someone who knows about it and the use I need. And I know nothing about inert gasses. Since my illness causes neuro/cognitive issues I just don't retain or understand much so I ask. I appreciate you're trying to help but you have no idea what research I did before I came here and why I felt the need to post. Clearly I did not have enough information to make me comfortable.

I'm wondering thoughts on if the govt will shut down any schmoe going into a welding store. They banned shipping full nitrogen canisters in a year so whats next? I think it's smart for asking if I'm still unsure.

Now that I know they'll both work I have to decide about buying now or waiting. If I had the canister last month I would have used it when my best friend suddenly passed away. I don't want to make an emotional decision. I want to be mentally ready, sick enough to do it but not too sick that I can't manage.

The purchase of tanks of inert gases will not be shut down by the government, at least in your lifetime; there are many,many common uses from home welding to beer brewing to food preservation to purging oxygen from half-used paint cans and millions of users. Their use in self-deliverance is a small fraction of 1% of total sales.

You have other, real concerns without looking for things to worry about!
