• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

On top of that, not everyone agrees it should be now, yet still kind of have to follow it internationally. The fact that it is like that shows how we are just arbitrary pawns in a game called 'History'.

Hm, it's makes sense it's basicly universal / traditional system, but technically you can implement your own way too- make your own theory of the concept of time and space.

It's not universal. It came about because Roman emperors added months and thus messed up the calenders.

I mean, pretty much all solar calendars put it then~ Unless you're crazy and adopt a lunar/lunisolar calendar as the Jews and Muslims do~
And it makes sense imo because it's between the harvesting seasons~ :) and Christians even have their own calendar start around then too~

Ha ha. That's kind of true actually. You'd think it would start at the beginning of Spring when things are actually renewed.

My dumb brain is always like- right- Christmas over. Now it should be warm again.

Being religious, do you agree that Christmas is also being celebrated at the wrong time? Don't more scholars think September is more likely to be Christ's birth month?

All systems have problems but the western one now just makes no natural sense. New year starting in dead of winter.

Why not? It is literally the beginning of the New Year, now it's 2025 so of course it makes sense.

Where else would a NEW YEAR begin, in the middle? Lol.

Like in spring? A spring morning when the sun comes up and birds are singing and crops are budding. That signifies new beginnings, not literally in the darkest blackest nights in the year.

New year starting on January 1st is indeed very arbitrary. New year has started on many different dates through different cultures and history.

If I remember correctly [citation needed], new year used to be March 1, which is why November and December reference novem (9) and decem (10)

Another arbitrary thing is the base-10 number system. We have nine seperate number symbols but do something different at 10. Why not twelve number symbols? Or Eight? Very arbitrary.

As well as dividing big numbers by thousands. Some cultures divide by myriads, so 1 million (1,000,000) to them would be 100 myriad (100,0000)

Everything is super duper arbitrary.

In the southern hemisphere the new year (according to our calendar) always starts in summer though still at midnight. It's just a question of where u r.

its arbitrary no matter when it is, but ive been thinking lately it could be put exactly inbetween winter solstice and spring equinox (so around 1st week of february), its around when its coldest and will on average only get warmer from there (with the midyear being where its hottest on average), like the year ends in a freeze and out thaws the new year

but that only applies to the northern hemisphere and is also less noticeable the closer to the equator, plus plenty of other variations from place to place
