Just wanting some peace

I find it so disturbing and terrifying how a human can potentially exist for so long in this futile and meaningless existence that is basically just a process of slowly dying. I certainly don't see any value in reaching an much older age, in fact getting older is just undesirable suffering that I see as being best avoided.

Being tormented by very old age sounds so hellish, I don't understand why anyone would wish to be trapped in this decaying flesh prison that can potentially torture us to unlimited amounts, no matter what I'll always see it as better to die, as only death is the way to avoid all unnecessary suffering.

Only the thought of eternally ceasing to exist comforts me, I only wish for nothingness, all that sounds ideal is being completely unaware of the horrific curse that is existence for all eternity.
And this is why it disgusts me how suicide isn't seen as a valid option, I despise this pro-suffering world where we cannot just choose to easily die in peace to escape from the burden of existing as a conscious being.

Yeah, I'm frightened of old age and illness too. I've seen a lot of what it can do to people and there's no way I want to go through that. Actually- that's the one thing even some likely pro-lifers can get their heads around. Both the police and police detective that did the wellness check and follow up over the whole IC SN thing seemed to accept that not wanting to end up with dementia and incontinence in a nursing home one day was a reasonable wish. They seemed to accept that those reasons were valid.

That said- there absolutely should be assisted suicide programmes worldwide that at a bare minimum give those in such dehumanizing circumstances- who want it- a dignified and peaceful way out. Alongside the ability to properly say goodbye to loved ones and better still- actually have them there for support at the end. It's utterly inhumane that we don't have this available. Sadly, the majority of us are likely going to have to go out alone, frightened and very possibly, in pain.

I agree with your post. Though I would not have an issue with aging - maybe - if functional immortality existed.

the way my grandfather suffered in his last moments terrified me. And now my grandmother is going through a similar process. No matter how much you take care of your health, illnesses are inevitable as you age. That's why I think people who are obsessed with health are idiots, they're trying to avoid the inevitable. For me, health was meant to be enjoyed because one day it ends, that's why I eat all the fast food I like, drink whenever I want and don't worry about doing tedious exercises at the gym. Its pontless sacrificing urself so much for health. I'm lucky I'm not even obese, in fact I'm in good shape.

As someone who grew up with elders constantly complaining about various health problems I too have no desire to see a longer life than what is absolutely necessary.

I agree, I dont want to get older or live to old age. What's really the point in it? My grandmother could barely walk, was angry all the time, had so many health issues with her heart and spine, and she passed away with alzheimers, dementia, and a brain tumor. Just from looking at her, old age just seems like another hell to put myself through for no real reason.

Same.

Mad respect for those willing to exist through being too old not to crap their pants, though. That takes about as much willpower as fighting SI if you ask me lol

I really do understand. I'm middle age and do not want to make old age. On top of that my wife is leaving so I would be all alone, just better to completely end it. After all no one will shed a tear when I am gone.

To be fair, I cope with thinking that AI is going to make us perfectly healthy and immortal (in VR).
