I had a question about liver metabolism and N.

If my medical condition is such that my liver is in really bad shape and doesn't metabolize drugs well, could N as a method of CTB backfire?

Thank you

This is a tough one, I'd imagine your body would metabolize it in much the same way it would any other drug. But I'm definitely not a professional on this and I'm purely speculating here. Hopefully my comment will bump this thread up and it'll catch the eye of someone more knowledgeable on this.

That's interesting, when a drug passes through the intestines it first goes to the liver for potential metabolism before systemic circulation.

As I understand it, N does not require metabolism to work, but it is metabolised by the liver before excretion.

You can see there is a paper about N in patient's with liver disease from the 50s here, and it says there is no evidence the individuals were more sensitive to N who had liver disease and so impaired inactivation of N:

Sessions, John T., et al. "The effect of barbiturates in patients with liver disease." The Journal of clinical investigation 33.8 (1954): 1116-1127.

I'd guess it would be the other way round, people with impaired livers would be more sensitive to N and not less (although this paper says there is no effect).

You might want to speak with some one who is a medical doctor, although phrasing the question might be a bit tricky, haha.

You don't need a pento-metabolism for suicidal intent. If you have trouble with different drugs, it is because of slowed/stopped degradation or lack of important metabolites that are biotransformed by the liver.

Pentobarbital = active metabolite and does not need to be biotransformed.

I see. So metabolism is for the purpose of excretion and not for the drug to work? Basically...

It is known that all the process will be slower if the liver is not in a decent condition, of course I mean if the target is to die.
A health liver is a sure success.

Ah, what I have read is opposite to that, specially about alcoholic problem persons.
Althought right now I have doubts about time to die or more pain......

When you inject it it bypasses the liver anyway, and it sure works. You just need an intact gastrointestinal system for absorption

My liver's enzymes and P450 metabolism pathways have been damaged by heavy metals and medication (Cipro)
