this situation is confusing me a lot. i had an appointment with my therapist and accidentally told her my only future plans are to ctb. at first she basically told me that it's something for cowards and ''the easy way out'' but when she understood i'm serious about it she asked me if i wanted to start a process at a euthanasia clinic. even though it's legal in my country this caught me off guard because i'm very young and her previous comments didn't exactly make it seem like she agreed with it. I told her that in theory i'd want euthanasia but i know the process is at least 1-2 years or longer and then i could still be rejected and just have wasted my time. because of personal reasons I need to ctb sooner than that so I said i don't have that kind of time. when she left she was almost begging me to do euthanasia instead of ctb another way. it kind of feels like she's tricking me? i can't see why euthanasia would be less like ''the easy way out''. i'm just so confused right now...

Your therapist needs to be fired. Anyone who brushes off ctb like that is a coward. I'd dump her and find a better one that doesn't belong in a bargain bin

I could be completely wrong, but it could be that your therapist is trying to buy some time so that she can treat you in the meantime. If so, I'd say it's a questionable strategy, to put it mildly.

I still can't understand how people can say that suicide is cowardly. It takes a lot of guts to kill yourself.

I was thinking exactly the same! That therapist sucks.

They should be fired for brushing off suicide as cowardly, as i said in my post, which is upsetting. The euthanasia option is 100% a ploy that OP saw through.

I would agree that if the option is legitimate, op would be hard pressed to say no, but the observation that its a lengthy process with likely a minimal chance of success, meaning it was likely a trap of sorts. OP is fine to be confused, but the therapist is gonna have to dig themselves out now because OP actually asked questions.

well she didn't completely brush it off, it was more like a ''ctb is the easy way out, i expected you to fight more'' type thing. like she was trying to motivate me but worded it horribly. unfortunately she's the best therapist i've had yet though

This painted a very different picture. That's what i was basing my frame of reference on, the words you used.

I think that she's thinking that once you go through the process of applying for euthanasia, you will change your mind about suicide. I think this is a good example of reverse psychology.

seems like your therapist is trying pumping money out of you for another two years, at least. if you ctb soon, she loses a client and losing money. but she'll make up for it by pumping her next

sorry, she did say those things but with a motivating intention. but they did sting a little so that's probably why i focused on them alone

That was my first thought too but she did seem very serious about it saying if that's what i want to do it's an option, and that she knows more people around my age that also have a process going on at a euthanasia clinic.

That's fucked. Find a new therapist and maybe report this one if possible.

I TOTALLY agree with the other family members here as far as the therapist is, well, shall we say NOT PROFESSIONAL! I love the 4 letter comments better myself! I have had 2 attempts, so far, and ALL of the mental health people worked/watched over me 24/7, at least for 6 months after the 2nd attempt. To have someone just "off the cuff" say that is irresponsible to say the least. You are a VERY valuable global family member and I send you all my love, caring and support. Walter :hug:

Anyone saying that this person should be fired or that she is just tricking OP has a very biased and honestly, a naive view on the way a relationship between a therapist and their patient develops and evolves. Sorry, but it's just stupid to assume that everyone has the same views that we have on this topic, especially a therapist that is expected to pull every young person out of suicide by their peers and the system. The idea that suicide is cowardly is extremely popular and widespread.

I can relate to this, OP. The best therapist that I found in my life started with views that opposed suicide, he worded it in much better ways, but over time he started to understand my situation and realized that some things can't change. He never explicitly said that I should do it or pursue euthanasia, but he told me that it was better to just be like a candle that slowly fades away instead of going against my nature and my ailments trying to find something that doesn't exist.

Obviously, I could be wrong, there's a lot of nuance in this, and it's impossible to tell people's real intentions through text. However, if you feel like she is a good therapist then don't abandon her, I've searched for a good therapist for over 10 years, they are really hard to find, and she may help you in ways that you don't even realize, even if this is just a way to keep you waiting.

i don't think anyone really cares but here's a small update: i saw her again today and the first thing she did was apologize for how she spoke about suicide and that she regretted being so harsh. i just thought that was kinda nice :)

I agree with @Sensei she is buying time.

However, I don't think there's anything evil about it, in her eyes she is trying to save your life.

So maybe there is still something to save

If you have a chance to have euthanasia I really envy you because that's the best way to leave this world.
