Venting My mom is dying.

Short story short she had a routine scan on her abdomen about six months ago related to chrohns. All clear.

Three months ago she had another scan.

This one does not come back clear.

There was a shadow on her liver - a big one. They do more tests to rule out an abscess. It isn't.

It's cancer. A rare and aggressive liver/bile duct cancer called cholangiocarcinoma. It's normally very slow growing.

this time it isn't.

the five year survival rate for this type of cancer and her situation is less than 10%. as they've found "more deposits" on her lungs (according to my mom) the chances are likely less...

she's only 53.

She hasn't been the perfect angel. She's abused me after being abused herself - but she's also one of the only people who will put up with me and all of my problems.

I will still be at her death bed, when it comes. She's my mom. I lost my other mom to breast cancer that spread everywhere in 2016.

I'm an atheist but I hope they both find peace and get to reunite again.

I will "take care" of myself mom. I promise. Just don't hate me if I come early.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this. It isn't easy at all. My grandpa, who was like my dad since mine had died when I was a child, started getting sicker and sicker a few years ago.

I knew he was going to die. Things dragged on for months. It got worse, as he started forgetting where he was at one point due to lack of oxygen. Suicide, even assisted/euthanasia, is incredibly taboo in the culture I was raised in, so he held out to the bitter end even though he told us he did not want to live anymore.

Be there for her as much as you can, tell her anything you might not have been able to before, but don't feel bad if you can't be there when the death happens. I still find myself haunted by the memories of having to watch my grandfather's last days and being present the day that he died.

I know you must be hurting so much right now. I hope they are able to give her some pain relief too.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I just lost my mom to colon cancer. She was amazing but suffered horribly. To make things worse I was in jail at the time on for something I was falsely accused of so I wasn't able to be with her during her last 2 weeks of hospice. When I got out of jail my phone has her last texts to me while she was dying. I was never able to respond. Spend as much time with her as you can. Leave no room for regret.
