I'm a firm believer that in some instances, suicidal ideation runs in families. Or perhaps a mental disorder that is inherited that causes suicidal thoughts.

That being said, is there any chance that she's acting out for attention??

What makes you think she is specifically suicidal?

I wouldnt write this off as being a family trait. Reading into psychology and economic theory i'm of the opinion nobody is naturally suicidal. please try to look into whats bringing this upon her

@foreverlikethestars I don't think she understands suicide but she keeps saying she wishes she was dead or never born my parents aren't very good at being a parent

There is no age to start thinking about "does live worth it ?", the far away I remember I was around 10 when I started to try some die attempts.
And family help a lot, I mean my mother have suicidal tendency, my sister is bipolar so sometimes yes sometimes no, so if your parent are not very good as you said and that helped you to have suicidal thoughts, is not so strange that you sister is in the same case, event at an early age.

Sorry if it's hurt for some parent, but I think before having children the couples should have a exam that will said "they are qualified to educate children" or "they are not, sterilization !".
Maybe it's too radical but well, with that kind of test I would not to want ctb, and probably not born at all.

I believe depression does run in families. Kurt Cobain had 2 uncles who committed suicide. Sylvia Plath's son committed suicide, as she had.

Suicide and depression definitely runs in my family - both sides. At least it doesn't seem to affect all of us. My siblings have little understanding of my illnesses.

I hate reading that an 8 year old is commenting she wishes she was dead. In the last few years we had an 8 year old and 10 year old die by hanging. Both had been told to just go home and kill yourself, and they did. Breaks your heart. Your sister might not understand what her words are saying or what her actions could do. I hope it's just a phase for her. Do you think she's hearing it from somewhere? I can see that this makes things tough for you, too, as you sound like you've taken on a parental role at times.

It's horrible to see someone so young who hurts so much. But I understand. One of my earliest memories, I was six years old and my mom's parents had just died in a horrible wreck the day after my sixth birthday. My mom was going completely nuts. I remember just standing outside, looking at the stars, and wishing I was dead too. I absolutely believe that she knows exactly what she's saying and that she means it. I've personally never heard of someone that young saying something so devastating just for attention.

Yep 100%, only person truly suicidal in my family was my dad, and after he left, now I am the only one in the family that is truly suicidal. I guarantee I inherited his mental illnesses
