you've probably already seen it, but everything everywhere all at once is my go-to. if you haven't, it's definitely more feel-good than flat out depressing but there are some painfully relatable issues regarding existence, family relationships, themes of suicidal ideation, etc

The ending of Coco gets me every fucking time.
Nimona gets me pretty emotional.
Id say its largely subjective, i hope you find one that works for you!

I second Coco. Also, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

I cry a lot at films, I think the one that gets me the most is the Italian film Life is Beautiful
I have seen most of the films in this rundown, obviously it's going to contain spoilers

I don't understand why Helen (watch it here) gets such bad reviews everywhere. The trailer is awful, but the actual movie is perhaps the best depiction of depression I've ever seen.

A lot of already mentioned films did the trick for me. I definitely recommend Jagten (The Hunt) for the male audience.

Jagten (2012): destruction of bonds.

Bridge to Terabithia (2007): teenage friendship.

Wolfwalkers (2020): love between parent and child.

Mass (2021): processing pain of losing your child.
Love Jagten, awesome film and makes some very relevant points. Like Mads Mikkelsen in general and would suggest "Another Round", if you haven't seen it.

I recommend "It's Such A Beautiful Day." It's an animated movie about a guy named Bill who suffers from a genetic mental health disorder. We join him on his journey through lost memories, loneliness and his decline in his mental state.

Gattaca and The Hours

Both feature a suicide but are very different movies. Worth seeing even if you somehow make it through without tears.

Green Mile, American History X, and Gran Torino are also depressing.

'Watership Down'.
It made me cry as a child.
The theme song 'Bright Eyes' can still bring a tear to my eye even now , long time later as an adult.
The film would probably do the same.
