It's also crazy that cost of living / regional inflation like Seattle, WA and Seatac, WA both had passed $15 minimum wage around, I want to say 2014? Starting New Year's Day it will be $21.30.
Dense, very liberal, high-taxed West Coast cities…

But for the state of Washington (not DC!), in which Seattle is a city (not the capital btw), is $16.66. Uh-oh, 666. 😈

Conservatives (I once was one to that time) fearmongered about implementing a minimum wage in Germany many years ago. There were many studies that proved a minimum wage helped the German economy. Especially, in low payment sectors and net positive effects on the economy. The same people though say there is maximum amount one should not cross. Socialdemocrats want to increase it. Conservatives want to keep it the same amount maybe adapting/linking it to inflation.

Well if you ask some of my conservative friends,
"Wages have risen which causes inflation? Raising wages is just an inflation indicator, I'm not an economist but a can of Pringles will cost $10 with a $25 an hour minimum wage."

https://mishtalk.com/economics/cost...jumps-250000-in-ca-due-to-minimum-wage-hikes/

But when I asked an economist, "Labor content of Pringle's is ver low.. so most other costs snd high profit mark up."

To clarify,

A lot of the names around PNW come from local tribes like the Duwamish.

…Look at say the Great American Southwest- the Spanish conquistadors renamed everything after saints like santa and blood of christ mountains

Mt. Rainier outside of Seattle wqs named by the British Explororer George Vancouver (think Vancouver, BC). He named it after his friend, a British admiral.

A genuine question here. If everyone was to become more wealthy- would that make the most wealthy richer or poorer? I guess it would depend where they make their money. If their business empires require lots of staff, I imagine they would lose money- if they were paying out higher (cough- I mean, reasonable) wages. If they sold products to those same more wealthy people though, wouldn't they become richer themselves? So, does it really benefit them keeping people hovering above the bread line?

I guess AI is about to change everything. If fewer people are needed to do jobs, I imagine they will need to work out some sort of universal benefit. Otherwise, how else will we be able to keep buying their products/ services? Will more money go into things like the military I wonder. Countries will continue to want to buy arms. What will they manufacture though- if no one has the money to afford it? Will the rich just sell amongst themselves? Will the poor die out? Will AI cause the world population to plummet- because there aren't many jobs or- explode- because we all get free benefits? Sorry- kind of a different angle on it.
