Just write down a feeling, or memory or random thought that makes you feel that fading childlike happiness again, it doesnt have to be real.
For me, it was when i was 7, my dad had just gotten Doom on the SNES. On a school night, around 2am, he woke me up, "hey buddy, wanna play doom with me?" deep down i knew it scared him to play alone, so i was more than happy to get one-on-one attention (i had 4 older brothers, my parents struggled to evenly divide the attention)
i remember going into the living room, blanket around me, lights are off, and me and my dad on the couch playing Doom, those iconic sound effects playing quietly, as to not wake anyone else up. We both stayed up until 6am when school and work started, so he turned the console off and said "hey buddy, dont tell mom i kept you up, and tonight well finish the game, okay?" with a big sleepy grin on his face. We never finished the game, nor did we ever have such a cozy little moment like that ever again.
THAT was the last time i can truly recall pure, unobligated joy. No rent to pay, no job to go to, no medical issues, no legal battles, just me and my dad, geeking out over an old game together.
I remember how big of a deal that game was when it came out, everyone was playing it, i still play it to this day. I got the invincibility cheat code "IDDQD" tattoo'd on my arm.
