I really enjoyed watching this video. Thank you Youtube algorithm. I won't evaluate the takes. But I will give you some context. Hasan is a leftwing commentator and also founder of the media company zeteo. He is quite famouse and respected for his debates skills. I was alos pretty impressed and I wanted to read a book of him. Eventually I just skimmed it because the book wasn't good at all. The target group was a mass audience that probably was not really interested in scientifical information on this topic.
Professor Jiang is the new shit from what I have heard. I found his Youtube channel because it blew off. Actually I am not sure which video was sugggested or whether a SaSu member suggested the video to me. He made accurate predictions of the Iran war, Trump's re-election etc. He was also wrong in some instances. His approach is rather speculative. As Hasan points out there is speculation whether Jiang is used by the Chinese government which is an interesting take. I think some conspiracy theories he spreads can actually harm the public discourse in the US. Though, he seems to have some really good videos. His connections to the Chinese government seems very interesting.
Though, I agree with most Youtube comments. Mehdi Hasan got cooked by him. Jiang was very patient with him while Hasan was a little bit too aggressive. You notice Jiang is really really smart. This was the first time I saw Mehdi Haan in so much trouble. He is known for being always super prepared for debates and interviews. Jiangs was pretty strong differentiating between facts and truth as a concept. Hasan didn't look good in this instance. I am still sceptcial of his reputation as super predictor. Alan Licthman once was hyped too. Often it rather seems some people are lucky in guessing and they are easiyl forgotten when they are wrong on important issues.
What do you think about the video?
