I'm pretty much just waiting to die now, i.e., waiting for the right circumstances--my family is moving and the moment I finally have my own room, I'm going to attempt with SN.

Sometimes I feel so anxious and desperate the wait feels impossible; other times I'm grateful for it, because this way I can mentally prepare and make sure I'm ready when the time comes.

Looking for recommendations--for books, movies, tv shows, articles, songs--to help spend the time. Anything about death/spirituality/self-reflection is a plus

Currently watching The Good Place and listening to a lot of Billie Eilish...
Very, very thankful for this forum.

2Pac. Unconditional Love, No More Pain, Troublesome 96, Trapped, Letter 2 My Unborn, and Changes (1998 Greatest Hits).

All very healing, cathartic songs. Enjoy.

I'm doing the same thing as you, just waiting for the right time, and mentally preparing myself for D-Day. I'm not reading many books because it's pretty hard to concentrate enough to try (even though I'm a lifelong reader). I guess something dismal like the complete poems and stories of Edgar Allan Poe. Particularly his poetry. There's no shortage of sad poems out there. One that comes to mind is Chidiock Tichborne's "Elegy." It was written by him soon before his execution. Poems are great if you're like me and can't concentrate much on reading novels.

Oh, and reading threads on this site. Can't forget that.

As far as movies go, you really can't go wrong with Schindler's List, off the top of my head. Joker's a great one too. Girl Interrupted. Philidelphia. My Life is sad as well. That's all I can think of at the moment. There's tons.

As far as music, I've been listening to a lot of Pink Floyd. They've got quite a few depressing songs if you want to go old school. Radiohead's good. Nine Inch Nails. Some Pearl Jam. Nirvana. Geez, the list goes on. There's a lot of sappy 70's songs. It's like every other song was sad in the 70's. All By Myself. Alone Again, Naturally...there's lots and lots if you can deal with it. Sometimes I even listen to old 50's sad songs. Some Opera music will make you cry. I guess country music wins the award for sad music, though I can't really deal with it, except for Johnny Cash. Hurt is great. He did a remake of In My Life by the Beatles that's pretty sad.

I guess in the end it depends on personal taste. Hope this helps you, if only a little.

My taste is darker than most people in this thread but for me my favorite media concerning death and grief would be these. Some of these might actually make you not want to cbt as they are quite a sad depiction of grief:

Movies: Harold and Maude (pro-choice), The Seventh Seal (about the Black Death), Jacob's Ladder (main character's son dies and he is haunted by grief and guilt)

Books: The Crow (duh, my profile pic and username is from this. About a man who's girlfriend is raped and murdered. He is also severely depressed and self harms. There is also a movie but it is a lot less depressing)

Albums: These artists aren't anything like Billie Eilish, but A Crow Looked At Me by Mount Eerie (indie folk), Happiness Stops Here by Happy Days (depressive black metal/emo/goth/shoegaze), The Ape Of Naples by Coil (experimental), Observatory Mansions by Nicole Dollanganger (folk/lo-fi/sadcore/dream pop), The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails (industrial), Pornography by The Cure (goth/post punk), Stage 4 by Touche Amore (screamo), Giles Corey by Giles Corey (lo-fi/sadcore), The Unnatural World by Have A Nice Life (goth/post-punk/shoegaze)

Sik World. His music is the absolute most cathartic thing i have ever found. sounds like he is inside my head.
<-- Called Highs and Lows. I think everyone on here will feel this one.

I prefer to watch things i have watched 30 times before. its easier, i dont have to pay attention and can zone out, SH, plot my demise. so much harder if you like the show.
