Do I have to go to a lawyer to make sure if I'm unsuccessful at my attempt I'll be turned off? To ensure I'll be cremated? (haven't made up my my mind about this one yet) Ensure that there are two seperate funeral services because some of my family might clash etc.? Hopefully it isn't too expensive. I'm in the EU (Ireland).

Not sure about laws in Ireland, but in the US you don't need a lawyer to accomplish that. Most living wills or healthcare directives just need witnesses or to be notarized. DNR orders, though, need to be approved by a doctor.

As for what happens after death, you can create your own will and don't need to involve a lawyer at all. It just needs witnesses. The advantage of involving a lawyer is so that you can be sure the document holds up in court if things have to go through that process.
