  • Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

We're renters and our house is being sold. My job is at risk due to company's lack of profit. My boyfriend's job is at risk since his Visa will expire soon unless renewed. Our landlord said we could leave early and so we found a new place. Paid the holding deposit and now he said it's too soon to leave, that he can't agree until the house is sold.

This morning I almost cried during the work meeting when they asked how I'm doing. I've been vomiting randomly once in a while, can't sleep for more than 3h intervals, don't want to eat. I just...I just wanted a bit of a break, just...some tiny glimpse of luck, something, something.

Organizations for renters rights likely will not get anything done for you. But being polite will do the same! Time is of the essence! You paid the deposit, pack your things and leave.

Consult a lawyer if you can afford it.. File suit against your current landlord who caused all this stress even small claims court may be able to put the equivalent of one, two or three months rent in your pocket if you have his option to leave early in writing. Small claims court will be cheaper too, usually less than $100 to file the case/papers at your local court.

Contact your boyfriend's embassy for help as well! But renters rights groups seem to be more talk than action. You can try them if you want but be sure to fight back in other ways. Good luck to you both. Landlords often suck

I contacted Shelter, the charity organisation, and they told me that, even though it's in writing (email) the landlord can change his mind as it's not legally binding unless we both signed a tenancy surrender agreement.

The landlord called us yesterday and he apologised for not having been explicit on the conditions of us leaving early. He said the house sale should be completed next week so things may work out for us to move to that house, if all goes right with the sale...
He suggested us to ask the new potential landlord for the furthest move in date he could accept. I'm now waiting on a reply on that.

I'm still stressed with the situation but him apologising and suggesting solutions made me feel a bit better. He said he will give us a good reference no problem, just needs the house sale concluded. Just need a little luck...a little of things going right...
