I am freaking out a bit as Ill be put into a mental health ward for three months and up to six months.

How did it go for you? And how did you survive?
I am scared to recover as I always wanted to end everything. Therapy for over a year plus two hospitalizations in that time mean my team are setting up a more intense regime for me.

I am sad to leave my home and animals for that time, also the in between of having really no one sad as it sounds as Ive only been on here so long is that I am kind of attached to reading others stories and experiences.

Im not convinced about full recovery but I am fairly sure I wont attempt inside as I would be found and all the crap that goes with it.

Whew it is just such a long time. I am rambling at this point, any pointers appreciated

Hi, I think it might be a positive thing and something good might come out of this for you. If you are going in as a longer term patient then there will be a proper care plan for you in place and access to a wide variety of therapy options and opportunities to meet and talk to other people. Plus, as you make progress you will be allowed days out so you can see your animals and family :-)

I don't know what country you are based in?
You can still pop on here and post a diary in a thread so everyone knows how you are doing without engaging too much? Xx

I think you have to decide If you want this stay or not. Just going there because you should is useless and waisted time and gives you new suffer. Can you engage with the hospital and do you want a improvement of your mental health? Be aware that this is mostly linked to big pain at the begining, but if you don't haven't cut all bonds to life this is worth considering. The plan of ctb doesn't run away, so you have a chance and possibility to brighten up your life.

You mentioned it in your post - attempting inside the hospital is not only extremely likely to fail, it will also eat you locked up for longer. As hard as it sounds, try to invest in your life to see if things do get better. If not, at least you'll have tried to turn your life around.

That hit hard. You are right in that I am resisting change and that will make my stay useless. Thanks for giving me something to think about.

In reading about the place just now they dont accept acute suicidal persons so I have to try and not get kicked out. Thank you I think I do need a new life since the one I have right now Id rather end.

I'm one of these people that finds writing stuff down really helpful - both because my memory is falling apart! And also I look back and think wow I can actually do a bit more than two months ago. Make sure you take some "harm free" pens!!

I'm in the Uk and a lady I know did a three month stint and she came out transformed. She found it was totally different to times she'd been in for 'emergency care' and she had different things to do and met loads of people. Take books to read, a journal, pack of cards and photos of your pets. Xx

It's kind of like SS IRL plus possibly a psychotic person or two & staff that can be hit or miss. I personally like having the people to talk to, getting used to the routine, and the cheesy shit to do. If you are really isolated right now (I don't know your situation), it might help you. I feel more normal in a psych ward. You get people to sit and eat with, a balanced diet brought to you (some people don't like hospital food, but dude, I'm not mad at french toast & syrup for breakfast). It might not be that bad for you. If you feel like the sky is falling now, it can't get any worse, right? At the very least, you'll have a lot of really good stories when you get out.

Is this based in the UK or US? I once tried to get more intensive help and constantly I kept being told I was only going to go in for 3 days and that was that unless I was either schizophrenic or severely developmentally disabled for the most part.

Fairly isolated, I really only leave to go to appointments. I did meet some neat people in psych one time but I had to disconnect for personal reasons, it was my own fault for taking a drug I was offered and landing right back in. So two people I couldnt because hard drug free is better for me. And the last woman we went out for a meal and I got the impression it was some sort of date. But that wasnt appropriate at all. Weird but I cant judge because Im fucking nuts myself.

Psych wards are decent for that, like well, none of us are sane or we wouldnt be in here. An odd community thing for sure.

Short stays are more frustrating than useful where I am, there was literally no therapy of any sort. There were some markers and some stop smoking pamphlets so the longer you were in the worse you got from boredom. I sprinted out of my room at meal times hungry or not because at least it was something to do hah
